Broken Budget Rental Truck Trailer

Waiting in a gas station for my fiancee to tcob, a very nice man came up and informed me the hitch to the car trailer was broken. Now I am in the middle of IL en route to DC with a full budget rental truck, two cars, and my family.

Wondering what to expect tomorrow when Budget Rental Truck weighs in.

It sounds terrible but being British I'm not sure I fully understand. An overnight stay sounds the most sensible. Good luck

It's their hitch on their truck. Same thing happened to me with a U-Haul 20years ago. They gave me a new truck and hired some guys to transfer the cargo.

Let's hope they can fix your hitch. Transferring is a PITA.

Just got off the phone with budget rental truck. They will NOT replace the car trailer. The car trailer ball reciever cracked. They claim it is my fault for backing up.

We are in Effingham, IL. There is a budget place here, they said they MAY let us rent another trailer IF they have one.

Well this just sucks, I'd be on the phone with someone who has a portable welder, have it repaired and get back on the road. If you were in PA my stepson could probably take care of it for you, sorry.

If it's a rental trailer you are stuck with the company solution. I presume they are saying you jack knifed it backing up and damaged the tongue.

Do you know enough about trailers to have seen that in your inspection when you picked it up? If not, this could have been there a long time waiting to fail. You can look for rust where it broke, that will demonstrate it was pre-existing.

Quick update. No budget car trailers within 100 miles. Welders say they cannot fix it. So I left a car in Effingham IL. Will come back and get it via amtrak. Thanks for the replies and support -- very helpful psychologically.

Budget Truck rental sucks. They absolutely suck.

I rented a truck recently to move some items from Northern NJ down to Wilmington DE. I purchased an Amtrak ticket to get back home because they assured me I could do after-hours drop off on the truck. No dice.

Because I have commercial insurance, I left their truck in the middle of downtown Wilmington with keys in it, the next day they tried to get me for a "broken door handle" I received a 10% refund ($28.00) for my troubles. LOL

Good luck man. If I was anywhere close to you, you can rest assured I'd at least come with a beer.

Didn't you say in another thread that you have a 2MM budget for a new sports car? Surely a man of such grandeur has peons to do this type of job. What are you doing driving a rental truck? This is the type of thing you wouldn't want getting out at the country club.

I said 3 mm and 3 years for my budget, but what is 1 million and a few years between friends. Ha! Basically I am an entreprenur. Or a high tech startup CEO. I have windfalls not a steady paycheck like an "average" professional. Between these windfalls I often spend money at work! Many of my friends have to eat "the ramen" before exits. One guy I know went from an m5 to five Ferraris. Another they said he was an idiot and that grown ups wouldn't watch educational tv. He went from .5 acres in avenel to 5 acres in Potomac Falls overnight. It's not unusual at all.

Right now I am working on something big, bold, and important. I feel like Hans Wilsdorf when he realized how big the wrist watch was going to be.

I am also 32 and hate to fly so take that how you will.

Made it out east. Just have to unload and return the budget rental truck. Check out this picture showing the CEL (which came on the first day) and broken wiper blade.
