Icon3 Watch Winders - what do you use ?

I've come to the conclusion that a winder may be a nice accessory.
It's no problem for no date models like Tudor black bay but any watch with date complication obviously takes more effort to re -set

My Daughters Date Just gets worn week days to her work but not on weekends
I cringe thinking about her re-setting and messing with the crown - don't think she enjoys the process ..can't blame her

So.... who use's a winder and what is a good reasonable choice ?

Orbita Sparta. Don't know if it's reasonable, since they've since the price has gone up quite a bit since I bought mine a decade ago. But it's good and gentle.

Don't use one myself, but I've heard very good things about Orbita, and most seem satisfied with Wolf.

Never used one myself. I like my movements to rest thus increasing service intervals.

A "cheap" watch winder can ruin your watch. So stay away from the bargain aisle.

I have Orbita, Wolf & Scatola winders and have been delighted by their performance and durability.

Scatola is more expensive... and may not be worth the premium.... but from time to time some of the Scatolas can be purchased for about the same as a Wolf or an Orbita You just have to look carefully and patiently. That said, you'll not be unhappy with a Wolf or an Orbita.

Wolf Viceroy 2 watch winder. Very good build quality for the money. Overstock has the best prices on Wolf winders.

I've heard good things about wolf. But i personally don't use watch winders. I believe that they are not good for watch though.

Wolf Designs winders are relatively inexpensive and readily available at many ADs and online retailers.

Cheap 8 watch winder off Amazon. They last about ten years then throw away and get another.

Orbita. The best.

Now, they have a newer model which I don't particularly like, and that model is not programmable and swings (Rotorwind). I'd guess some people like them but I don't because not all watches function well with the Rotorwind system.

The programmable models are fantastic, though. Of the programmables, I have owned one for three watches and two singles and they are flawless and bullet-proof.

Watch Winders - what do you use ?

Yes. I like the wonder located between my hand and forearm.

I may need an electric one when I get my grande complication...someday.

They are easier on a watch than you wearing it. Opinions on this are subjective.

I have Wolf Viceroy and it works brilliantly. I like the delay programme which means it will start to wind after being inactive for x amount of hours. And it doesn't just winds continuously, it does a number of turns and then rests before repeating again.

x2. I never understood the argument that a watch-winder isn't good for your watch. If I wear the watch every day, how is that any different, other than perhaps creating even a little more wear and tear than a winder?

I find winders invaluable for vintage watches that don't have the quick-date feature. Saves me from spinning the hands around and around to advance the date.

I have a three slot wolf winder. Going on year 3 has been working flawlessly. Quiet as a mouse. I would recommend.

My watch only comes off at night. If for some reason it's off for longer, I just use my thumb and forefinger...and the crown. Works great.

Re: Damage to a watch from a watchwinder-
A watch winder which does not properly shield the watch from the electromagnetic forces created by the motor can magnitize the watch. Scatola, Orbita and Wolf winders are all constructed so this will not occur.

My advice would be to avoid a winder because you are basically wearing out the movement without actually wearing the watch. This concept has always seemed pointless to me. A DJ is super easy to set time/date on. Also, letting the movement rest is not going to do any harm, and remember that more frequent time-setting will result in more accurate time-keeping. If the movement never stops the time will eventually have to be adjusted anyway.

Teach your daughter how to set the time and date properly so she can fully enjoy owning a Rolex.

What about a Modalo winder? They look to be good quality with plenty of choices. Anyone have anything to say about Modalo?

WOLF
WOLF 270002 Heritage Single Watch Winder with Cover, Black, from Amazon, around 140.00. Ultra quiet, very well made for the money. Also have an older Rapport that works great but very noisy.
