Cool Dad Story

My Dad is a great person and one of the most honest, hardworking man I know and is a real modest person who doesn't show boat ever. Him and my mom were in Dallas for their annual visit to see his favorite son (me). We got to talking about watches and how he bought a Bulova Chronograph back in the sixties and how it was the most expensive watch he'd ever purchased. He said he lost it 3 days later when he went water skiing and neglected to take it off while in the water and lost it. He said he spent about 300 dollars on it. Anyway I thought it was a neat and fun story. Then I started showing him my various watches and had him try on my 1991 Buckley dial steel Date Just to see what size wrist he had. It fit him perfectly and right then and there I told him to take it because it looked so good on his wrist with the Jubilee bracelet. He didn't know what to say except "thank you" several times. It was just so fun to be able to do that. He asked how much it was worth and I told him around 3000 dollars and he couldn't believe I'd just give him the watch. I just said you better put in your Will, that I receive it back from you, and we all had a good chuckle about it.

That is a cool story indeed. Well done! Somehow I think gifting in that direction could be as meaningful as the other direction. Good stuff!

Good job!! I would like to do that but my pops is so not a watch guy. I tried to offer my old Bulova or a Movado when I got my first Rolex and the whole idea was lost on him. He just doesn't wear watches.

My 19 month old son on the other hand already says "watch" when he sees one on my arm or if he sees me on this site. Definitely saving one for him!!

That's a lovely story, thanks for sharing.

My Dad has always wanted an Omega Speedmaster (Specifically the 60th anniversary one I believe) and if I ever had the spare cash, I would adore to buy it for him before he gets much older. :(

I always wanted to do that for my Dad but was not of the means before it was too late. Congrats on a beautiful gesture
