This is likely the lone example.
79280 (& 60 & 70s) non-Tiger versions sell for thousands more than their "Tiger" counterparts with the same / very similar dial design. Nevertheless, this is a great watch especially with the rotating 12 bezel. Honestly, my 79280P is so much more wearable (& easier to read the time) than my Daytona. |

You asked, so...gotta say, I dislike. The three sub dials all favored to the left, with the date wheel and cyclops trying to balance it out on the right, just makes for a clumsy dial design. Conversely, the Daytona, with its sub dials centered and with the Rolex crown balancing it above, it’s so much more pleasing and symmetric.
I know, I know. I’m alone in this! |

But if we all thought the same thing, what would we have to discuss? |

And I shouldve added that Daytonas never appealed to me, either. |

I owned a Big Block 79160. It looked sweet. I have a smallish wrist and the tallness of the case and the wobble of the 7750 movement did bug me after a while, which meant it had to leave the collection.
That said, if you have the wrist to pull it off, then its a beautiful watch for the money! I have also seen linen silver panda dials for the 79260 Tiger chronographs, which are super stunning. That said, I didnt care for the polished lugs or the non-oyster bracelet on the 79260.

Personally I prefer the 792x0 to the Big Block, the rounded case-side profile hides the height of the midcase perfectly. |

Not really owned a Tudor so I can't contribute much but I love what you did with yours. It's brilliant.

That's an interesting observation. I enjoy the flat sides of the Big Block, but you do need to have the right-sized wrist to be able to wear it.

This watch was on my wrist for so many big moments in my life that it deserved the upgrades :)

As regards the wise words of Kingface66 and zapokee, I've found the 7750 dial configuration is a little like the Chevy Corvette: folks tend to either like it a lot, or hate it. I've always liked asymmetrical watches with symmetrical dials, so I'm not a huge fan, but it's very functional: I'm wearing an Ollech Wajs 7750 day and date as we speak.

The "Tiger" chronographs must become a classic,
the original pamphlet when introduced stated they would 😁 |

I agree about the 89190 Hydronauts. I've had a few of them over the years and they are great watches. My only complaint is the bezel insert. It's a got a silver (and some are black or blue) paint on it that scratches easily and the Rolex dealer has to order an entire new bezel and not just an insert if you want to replace it.

I might be biased but I truly believe I have the best version of this watch. I love the non tiger Dial this has. While it's no Rolex movement it still contains a reliable good movement. I absolutely love this watch and just really enjoy wearing it.

Right. They enhance one's flimsy wrists, as in my case.

I like the watch but am not a tiger fan. For that, I would never buy one.

When I bought my 79160 new in 1994, the new Tigers were in the case, too (WoS, London). I have to admit I looked at a few of them and was considering one with a yellow dial (!) when the saleswoman told me to pass on the Tiger and go with the 79160. She felt the colors and the branding of the Tigers would consign them to niche pieces while the 79160 would be the better choice in the long run.
Again, this was 1994, while purchasing new from an AD. I took her advice, and am glad I did. S82 |
