Me likes the Daytona green gold but it is still just a Rolex Ha! Promise you will be wearing the 5711 much more. Although I have several PP’s and Rolexes , I find my self virtually never wearing the Rolexes and the 5711 gets the most wrist time of all. Love thinness and that it is under the radar. Enjoy your great new timepiece. james in San Antonio Tx:-)

Congrats man!
At the end, it's you that needs to be happy and that will wear the watch.
If I had both watches, I'd wear the 5711 most days as well.
There was no wrong choice, and I'm happy you went with what made you happy!

It looks good on you. One piece of advice though... don’t put this watch on a pedestal. Wear it as you would your gold Daytona. I didn’t take my own advice and ended up not wearing my 5711 from new.

I saw it as an occasional ‘special events’ watch despite it’s diversity and I lost the urge to wear it due to witnessing it increase in price 200% from what I paid.

It really is a beautiful watch.

Nice move, and clear to see when this thread moved to the Patek forum.

Congratulations! While the Rolex is a great watch, the Nautilus is a different class, more refined, understated and classy...I think you made a good trade...but then again I am not the big flashy gold Rolex kind of guy.

Wowsers. You came here and asked the forums advice and it was like 20 to 1 against but you still did it.

Oh well.

I like this trade. I have a YG Zenith Daytona that is older and while I love it, the Nautilus feels more refined and special on my wrist. Congrats

Nice watch! BTW did you know it was the old model not the new one with hacking movement, assuming you didn't have a preference?

Noted a couple of blue 5711 sold from WB website. 1 of them was listed at 81,950. The market is hot.

Yes, I would. You, yourself, said you don’t wear the “John Mayer”. If so, then get the 5711 (assuming you’d wear and enjoy).

It appears I am both tacky AND unclassy!

Certainly not a watch for everyone, but I find that sometimes it's the perfect fun weekender.

Whether the move was right or wrong is debatable.

What I do find funny, is that apparently the 5711 is all hype and AD's had to force people to buy them just 3-4 years ago.
So how was it with the YG green face Daytona again? Oh right...John Mayer hyped it up, and suddenly everybody needed one.
So in those terms, one hype were traded for another. Which one, if any, that is sustainable remains to be seen, but the YG Daytona were not always "special" and "desirable".

Yellow Gold daytona was, is and will be always a classic Rolex either black dial or champaign dial; now the green dial is a new hype, which doesn't mean is not cool because it is, but is not the color dial of the classic yellow daytona in my mind, at least not yet.

Nautilus wasn't that sought after until the singers (rappers and not rappers) start to make a statement with them. And again that doesn't make it less cool because it is.

So which is better to keep? depends on the owner preferences and wearing habits.

Congrats to the OP , i think he made the right decision , if you don't wear it sell it or trade it, and thats what he did

...
It is just a myth that ADs were desperate to sell 5711s only 3 or 4 years ago. Even 5 years ago it took some effort to get on a waitlist for the blue 5711 for a new customer. Since much longer I haven't seen one in a display case. In 2015 the expected wait time was 2-3 years. The one exception seems to have been the US where demand picked up later than elsewhere.

I don't believe the 5711 within the past 5 years was ever in the display case. Or "available", trust me I tried buying one almost 5 years ago. The 5167 I tried in 2017 (when in 2016 you could buy it below MSRP) and it was picking up steam (I was said to get one in 2018/2019... but it never materialized).

The value of the material IMO is irrelevant. It comes down to the very point in time when you are there to make a decision. If the market value works for you and its the watch you want... go for it!

I like the YG Daytona, but it does nothing for me. I rather have the SS 116500 any day of the week regardless of value. The 5711 (be it I tried on the 5712) on the other hand, the balance, feel and ultimately how makes me feel on the wrist... just love it!

I can affirm that the 5711, blue dial, was not available to the average client in NYC in 2015. I tried to get on the waitlist at two ADs in Manhattan from whom I had purchased other watches but no dice. I could have gotten the white dial 5711 or, at a discount, the 5980.

i think you did the right move by trading the Rolex for the PP.
i think the nautilus is in a league of its own

I dislike both for different reasons, but the deal was fair.

Good job OP - getting something you like is always better than something sitting in box.

Patek 5711 is much harder to get than gold Daytona. It’s impossible to get it at AD even if you are a Very good client. If you are good client you will have Gold Daytona without doubts. it‘s up to you but this is the situation.

I like the the 5711 a lot more than a Daytona and I still wouldn’t do it...especially with the extra $10K involved.

If you are considering purely market value, maybe the 5711 is worth slightly more right now. And even if you consider the difficulty of getting each watch, the 5711 is gonna be much harder to get from an AD. Good trade I would say.
