Does this dial look a little too yellow for you?

I came across a Tudor sub and the lume is fairly yellow. It's being sold from a reputable seller, so not worried about being swindled intentionally. But figured to come here and share a photo to get some other opinions.

What do you guys think of the dial? Redial? Relume? Original that's showing age? Something else?

Thanks a lot!!

Need some natural-light photos. Shining a UV/blacklight on the dial could also give you some clues.

Based just on the lume color and that photo, you won't know for sure. Old tritium can indeed turn that yellow, although note the color difference with the hands, which may or may not have occurred naturally.

Thanks for the reply. I'll request those photos. Any other hints or telling information from the photo?

Is this color that lume turns desirable to some? I'm on the edge, almost seems too yellow... but I also never used to like any patina and now it's grown on me!

Hands look lighter in color and might be replacement...the second had is pretty dirty. Pip looks Luminova and probably glows(replacement) but I would also ask them to put it in the sun for a short time and see if they are dead or glow....If that’s the original dial I’m sure it’s dead and the hands if original would be also

I can see some texture/outlines of some of the lume plots, but the photo isn't detailed enough to further evaluate the lume. Not for my eyes anyway.

Presumably this Tudor Sub is fairly pricey. Surely you can get more and better photos. It's not a used Ikea chair someone is trying to sell.

As for patina color, that's a matter of personal preference. Some prefer light/mild/creamy patina, others like heavy patina that can turn yellow or even orange in some cases. What's more important, IMHO, is the overall condition of the watch and that the lume is factory original.

Here's my heavy patina DRSD. It has its appeal, but it might not be for everyone.

IMO you shouldn't make decisions based on what others like. Regardless of whether or not the dial is legit and original, if it's not appealing to you, don't buy it. These watches aren't cheap, buy one that you love.

Aaron: I love that DRSD dial, and the matching pearl.

Looks good to me. Non-matching shades of patina on the hands and dial are actually a good sign to me, because when people shenaniganify the lume they generally color-match it.

Need better photos. Lume plots on these are often very puffy. Color on plot should be aged tritium, white marker under plot should be white. Photos indicate color underneath is yellow - dial looks legit, as do hands.

Looks like lousy lighting + poor photo skills * reduced resolution = what we got here ' ) .

Thank you, Dan! The patina is actually not as yellow in most light, but in the sun the yellow (and red) on the dial really pops.

Looks good to me but sometimes pics are deceiving, try to find better ones.

Yes sometimes, in tudor snowflakes, can see that hands are different in colour to dial but is still original.

The pip looks too new but the patina yellow seems okay. Also the seconds hand, is quite common to have broken lume bits.
