Well, you better do some research, it’s definitely not a maxi dial.
It’s a serif dial, so your dial is from before 1975 and your case is from 1979, so it’s put together from parts. I hope you have to possibility to unwind the trade. Look on this website to educate yourself... http://www.5513mattedial.com/Serifs.html |

Understood. But the dial is not correct for the case and it’s corresponding serial numbers (and ‘papers’) As stated above this is not a true watch. It has been cobbled together. You shouldn’t allow the seller to incorrectly advertise and sell this to you. Mind sharing where this is from?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would definitely bring it back, a watch like this is only worth what your getting for it selling its parts, or try to find the correct dial, but finding a Maxi mk1 dial is a big challenge.
Your first “birth year” Rolex should be all correct, not a franken... |

OP's watch has a serif dial, as noted by shift7. The middle stroke in the "E" in Rolex is the clue, in addition to the serif peeking out from the corners of some of the lume plots. Would be unusual to see that style of dial in a Sub well into the 5 mil. serials.

Papers hang tag etc match the case (“Group Of Stuff”). Dial is different from this Group Of Stuff. Seller appears to not know what he had or was ‘uncareful’ in his representations of same. |

You’re better off with a service dial than a serif dial in that case.
If you paid mk1 money, you should definitely bring it to the sellers attention. This is more serious than you think. Should tell us the seller so it won’t happen again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I agree that it's a serious issue regarding the seller, and that he should return it, if at all possible. However, I would rather have that dial than a service dial, because it has some real value. If necessary, he can sell that dial to partially finance a Maxi dial purchase.

Ask asap for refund...normal serif dial, awful hands and despite that I do not see a lot, pretty sure it's not unpolished...

The seller has clearly mislead the buyer.
The OP seemed to imply the watch was ‘advertised as being xyz’ so if there is an online description, you have proof of fraud in writing. OP: Please send us the link to the dealers website/let us know who the seller is and please WHATEVER YOU DO, return the watch and demand a refund. |

What I meant to say is at least a service dial would make it all period correct. But yes you’re right a serif dial at least worth money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Congratulation! Are you going to have it serviced any time in the future?

I hope the op gets a refund here and it would be great to know who the seller was so that the rest of us can avoid him.

Sorry that your enthusiasm was curbed but its better to know.
Basically, the dial comes from an earlier Sub and was put in a 1979 case that had a full set = higher price! Be glad that you posted here and the experienced guys picked up on it. Refund it and tell us who was the seller. If it was someone who didn't know and was previously scammed....it is one thing, if its a dealer...we have a problem. We have seen more and more cases with “doctored” watches lately. Some come from dealers we know and used to trust.

***MY FIRST ROLEX*** 5513 Unpolished '79
Have you posted HQ pics of the case, serial etc? How do you know this isn’t a fake watch built to match the papers?
If the back story is BS you could have much more to worry about than the dial. Post the seller so people can avoid getting screwed over too. |
