Rhodium Rolex OP 39

Just picked this watch up today.

Interestingly (or possibly not) my AD said they don’t get many of these in. Apparently one piece every 3 months on average comes in to this particular store. Scarce Rolex OP’s is surely one of the portents of the apocalypse? It’s not a waiting list piece obviously (that really would be a prelude to Armageddon) but I had to wait a while to audition it.

I realise this isn’t a hot watch relative to the most talked about references on here, but I think it’s elegant and understated yet distinctive. The blue hour markers divide opinion but I think they make the dial pop just enough without being OTT. I reckon this is close to being the ultimate GADA piece, since it’d look equally at home matched with jeans and t-shirt as with suit and tie.

I also think this may be the most comfortable watch I own. That may be new watch euphoria talking (I’ve only had it a matter of hours) but it has a lovely balance between the weight of the bracelet vs the weight of the watch head. By comparison all my other watches seem slightly (I do mean slightly - I’m nitpicking) top-heavy, due to being on leather/croc in the case of the dress watches or having large watch heads in the case of the sports watches.

The ideal daily beater?

As an aside, and already well documented by the U.K. based posters on here and known to most of us, my AD said that they have just started instituting a policy of de-stickering the waiting list references - they weren’t doing this when I bought my BLNR in January. They also said they would imminently be instituting a policy of retaining the warranty card for a year. He reckoned that would definitely help me get the LVc I’m waiting for quicker as he expected many on the list to decline the purchase as a result. Happy days, I’m all for it. He also confirmed that they were only looking to sell to locals who had a purchase history and that in that sense, the “list” isn’t worth the metaphorical paper it’s metaphorically written on.

In summary, if you’re thinking about pulling the trigger on this watch, consider me your enabler. Audition it. It’ll find a home in any collection.

Congratulations on your new rhodium OP39! This really is a great looking Rolex at a great price point, thus the demand. The new black and white face versions will be popular too. I understand about retaining the warranty card and peeling the plastics which serve as disincentives to the grey market. Wish the holding period was 6 months instead and that I could personally peel the plastics at the AD before tucking it in the box. Wear your OP39 in good health. Cheers!

It's a nice-looking watch. I, too, like the blue "pips" on the dark rhodium dial. It's a nice complement to the otherwise monochrome design.

The Rhodium dial is beautiful! Also think the 39 is the sweet spot size wise. Congrats!

Congrats, it’s a lovely watch and agree that’s it’s very comfortable. I recently sold mine as although I loved the rhodium part of the dial the blue dots just got a bit annoying in the end. Will definitely have a look at the new black dial when available though as I think that’s a winner!
