The Explorer II Enigma
Just realized the explorer 2 is less expensive than the SS sub date?!
Blew my mind lol so the sub has triple lock with 300m, ceramic bez and polished center links...I think the explorer 2 is worth more and has better features by far..how many of us travel and could use GMT function? How many dive beyond 300 meters regularly? Wear my explorer way more than my sub Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think I need a polar dial Explorer II in my life! Anyone know what kind of waiting list do UK AD's have on them? I have seen a couple in overseas AD's in the last 12 months when on my travels so maybe they are not so hard to come by.

Love this thread and noted that I posted travel pics before!. Owned my EXP11 for 10 years this year....763 flights, countless time zone changes - pretty much every dodgy situation you can imagine (or dream about ;) and I love it like it was fresh out of the box. It goes well with T's and jeans, with heat and cold and when I put on a suit it glints, grins darkly and peeps out from under my cuff. We're about to retire in a year or so my watch and I and then we'll be going fishing a whole lot more.......must post some EXP and fishing pics some time

Missed it to much
I’ve had a few Rolex varients including the latest explorer 2 and without doubt I miss it the most.
I’ve sold a few and ended up with a deepsea 116660 and I’ve got a brand new polar explorer coming this morning from a grey dealer at less than retail. Can’t wait. The watch just looks the business when it’s on the wrist and people do notice your wearing it. I’ve gone full circle twice now trying to find the perfect watches for me and I think you have to buy and sell a few to get the perfect fit. Ideally I’d like 3 watches but then you end up shuffling and selling and getting confused. Best stick to 2. I wore my previous one all the time and I’m a carpenter and it was mint when I sold it on so don’t be frightened to wear it all the time. |

Whilst the photoshopped images don’t look bad I think a ceramic bezel would most definitely take away the hallmark characteristic of the Explorer. I also wonder how much more brittle ceramic gets in really low sub zero temperatures where this watch was in the most part often designed to be.
There’s a classic ‘70’s feel to all explorers, which a ceramic bezel would wash away in a heartbeat. This is one Rolex that wears its scars with pride and remains the last true Rolex tool watch in the line up. Let’s hooe they leave it that way. A redesign, maybe, a ceramic bezel, no. |

That’s what I’m looking for, something robust that actually tells time and not a “look at me watch”.
Still considering the upgrade from my Black Bay 36mm. Thank you all for your reply. Enviado do meu iPhone usando o Tapatalk |

Interesting and timely topic for me. I am considering either a black dial 16570 or a 10460. I've always wanted a Sub... but I have the Omega Planet Ocean in my collection (which is similar).
I am newly intrigued by the Exp II, for many of the reasons posted here in this thread - it has the GMT complication, reported to be the most comfortable of the sport watches, is not that common, and most of all I see it going for about $2k less than a 10460 Sub. Ideally I'd have both, but just trying to pick my first Rolex. And this year might be the year I finally pull the trigger. Maybe. |

Anyway, they wear virtually the same. The clasp on the 16570 is a little shorter so I use an extra link and the SELs reduce the "Rolex rattle" a bit. A 16610 would be even more similar I think. If you have ANY desire for a sub I don't think an exp2 will satisfy it though. I just got both. Polar exp2 for even more variety :) |

I just couldn’t stay away....
Having a 16570 but coming from the 42MM I feel I can never go back to a smaller 40MM watch. It’s crazy how much this piece has grown on me and become an everyday wear To anyone thinking or on the fence, the 42MM 216570 is the ultimate tool watch in a long line of jewelry watches nowadays Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
