First AP incoming, and absolutely smitten!

So long story short for my dear AP lovers.

I've always been a fan of the simple RO time only.

The bracelet/design, finishing and overall aesthetic has always been appealing to me.

I still remember 3 years ago when I would go to the AD almost every other day to try on the 15450. I didnt pull the trigger on it because I really wanted it to be a darker dial (at the time only silver existed).

The 39 MM 15300/15202 were out of the question as they didnt wear as refined as I like my watches to wear.

Fast forward to now, my tastes have evolved and I am into vintage watch collecting.

I have had my eyes open for a 36 MM 14790 in exceptional condition for a LONG time now. I came close to buying one once about a year ago, but the case was too polished for my liking.
Naturally as these watches got serviced always at AP, they tend to be polished. This is more so the case with the older watches when people cared less about such things. For me, an overly polished case on an AP totally ruins its charm.

Being a vintage collector, dings, scratches, and "wear" do not bother me, perfect looking(polished) old watches bug me.

Without further ado, here's an exceptional early dial 14790. Fits like a glove(almost the same size as a vintage daytona), and I am SMITTEN!

Love the '790. The 36mm size is ideal for most wrist sizes. Hearty congrats!

Congrats! The dark blue dial is stunning. The 36mm 14790 is the perfect size for your wrist. What size is your wrist?

Congrats! That looks fantastic!

I know very little about the 14790. What movement were they using back then for the non-ultra thin RO’s?

Thank you! I agree with you. I think most guys like their APs in specific to wear on the larger side. ROs also generally tend to wear larger than other watches of the sam specs as you know, due to the protruding lugs, that's why even though I would like, an 5402 simply wears too large.

Appreciate the love!

Thank you! It is quite difficult to capture the beauty of the dial/tapisserie.
Tiny wrists at 6"-15.25cm or slightly above at the most. Most likely not larger than that though.
Have not measured in a while but they definitely haven't gotten larger!

So it is a JLC based movement, caliber 2125. The watch has an extremely thin profile..

outstanding. That gives me reassurance that IF I can get my hands on a 15450 that it will wear just fine at 37mm on my 6.75 wrists.

The 15400 is going to be too big for me

Oh the 15450 wears incredible no doubt. I have no doubt that I would have picked one up if I had given up on the 14790 hunt.
On a wrist size of 6.75", the 15450 will sit perfectly flush and fit like a glove!
Good luck.

You totally should! Try it on before pulling the trigger if you have a chance.
I personally could not be happier with the size.
Let me know if I can help Dave!

Looks great. Is it much thinner than the 15450?

I honestly have not compared them side by side, just worn each separately, but it is definitely a good amount thinner.

I suppose it is normally on the smaller side for most.
