Warranty on pre-owned

Any issues with warranty on buying a pre-owned watch? Also, if it’s registered to the 1st owner, will I still get the 5 years?
I’m looking for a 26401ro.oo.a002ca.02

1st.. So long you have the complete provenance the warranties stays with you.
2nd. To be eligible for a 5 years warranty, the purchase date will have to be on 1st January 2017 if not later.

The manufacturer’s warranty is on the watch, irrespective of who owns it during the period covered.

The warranty follows the watch not the owner.

Guess you can get the user id and password for the AP website too from the previous owner?

Absolutely not! The new owner just creates their own account.

Good to know. And the new owner basically re-registers the watch and business as usual?

I’m curious about the specifics of registering or re-registering too. I recently bought a 15400 used and am unclear how to register it online. The previous owner had it registered under his name.

I called a local AD asking about this and they had me more confused by the time I hung up with them.

That has been my experience. If there are any issues with registering the watches online, AP will be responsive to address them

But when new owner enters the serial number etc won't the system say the watch is already registered?

Another newbie to the world of transferable warranties.

How does one re-register? I have all the paperwork - what do I do now?

Go to the AP website, create an account, then under “my watches” select add to portfolio

No, the system doesn’t cross check anything – it’s just a basic and simple database, in all likelihood.
In the background though, it could check for reported lost/stolen serials, and flag up any found, internally.

I didn't know that. Always assumed it was a way for one to verify authenticity.

You can’t just verify authenticity by punching in a few numbers, it doesn’t show whether or not specific parts are authentic. It is rare but possible to fake all the right combinations simply by finding a picture on the internet that has the complete set visually and available to copy.

However, it does act as a good initial indicator.

I recently went through this process as i just bought a diver who someone had returned due to Buyers Remorse 5 days later after purchase. The first buyer had unfortunatelly registred the watch in his name. Let explain:
A) The registration process is part of the warranty process. You can not register the watch under your name if the previous owner has already registred the watch to claim the 3 (now 5) years warranty extension, When you are entering the warranty number, the web page will state ”Warranty Number Not Valid” and you will not be able to proceed further.
B) You can not transfer the owners name from the previous owner to a new one online. Once the first owner has registred the watch, it will be under his /her name. Game Over.

HOWEVER, if you send in the watch for service, they will register the watch as yours once they have completed the service. You might want to specify that you want a paper with the watch under your name when you hand in the watch to the AD for service. So, take the watch, hand it in for service, wait 2 months and then retrieve back the watch registred under your name.

This is how it was explaned to me by one of our local AP boutiques. Hope i could help.
