My Local AD

That,s him now closed his doors, exterior Rolex clock removed, for sale sign up, very sad, small family business served an area for over 20 years.

Eric N Smith of Newton Mearns, south of Glasgow.

Very sad indeed. Especially for the nine staff.

Not too long ago, our news always included businesses shutting down due to various reasons one of which is the impact of online sale. This went on every week and months!

But for some reasons our very few ADs were spared and in fact thriving due in part to rich immigrants wanting our mythical clean and green image.

That really sucks specially if you had developed a long relationship with them. Time to start over. Maybe that’s why I have 2-3 ADs I regularly use.

It was only about 2 years ago they spent about 250k for all the new Rolex branding and very expensive adverts at Glasgow Airport. Last time i spoke to them about 6 months ago they said Rolex were very hard to deal with regards stock etc.

Strange when demand on many models is at an all time high, but think more ADs will close from now on.

Can’t blame them if they have nothing to sell that anyone wants. Rolex basically helped put them out of business. I often wonder if that is part of the goal of the supply limitations. An easy way to run off these small AD’s. I don’t know what my AD spent a couple years ago putting in all the new cases and Rolex wall and the VIP room etc. All at the request of Rolex.

I’ve wondered the same thing about my AD who did the same ... and is now creating Patek and Cartier spaces like the Rolex space. Which again boggles my mind since they are just as short on Patek pieces as they are on Rolex watches

I’m sure a lot. I haven’t been in the remodeled store, but I’m guessing that they’re no different than anywhere else. Little to no SS Rolexes other than maybe a few in back for VIPs

Sad to hear that. But i expect more ADs will close due to the poor sales most are experiencing.

It was a nice store and good people. I have bought a couple from them. I was there last year - they lost the Tudor franchise - told me it was because Rolex didn't want them co-located with Rolex, although this seems ever more common these days. I did read that the family owners were retiring, moving from the area and didn't find a buyer for the shop leading to its closure. Sad day

They closed their doors at the end of March due to retirement and what encouraged this was the fact Rolex UK told them that every piece would be on order basis and the lack of SS sports they were receiving.

They also advised me that they don't foresee smaller independent ADs lasting.

When you asked to import 10 TT PM DJ for 1 SS sport model by Rolex, you prefer to close the door.

Quite sad. I genuinely don’t see how other smaller ADs will survive either. I was talking to one in London where the sales lady complained how hard it is not having something to sell.

Yes, I think the mothership will want a lot more control over how their brand is distributed and bought and used so more boutiques, less indies.

Sad, but then again most ADs in recent years hand out promotional pamphlets with pictures of watches, but no watches themselves...

Rolex don,t realise that he was in a very plush area, full of football players, actors etc.
This was the only Rolex AD in the south of glasgow.

They decided to retire, it was the right time for them.
They had no kids to take the business on, and had no luck selling the business.
Just one of these things.

Ultimately Rolex don’t care.....these footballers and regular customers will just make the short trip into Glasgow City where there are 2 ADs.
