I'll second the above. Having a master technician, who knows who you are, is a great comfort factor. The analogy is banking with a multi-national, where you are an account number, and dealing with a local bank, where you are known as a person. Both can do a great job, but if there is a problem, would you rather deal with a series of voicemail instructions, or would you like to get a call back from someone who can actually help?

While I have not had my Rolex serviced by Rik, I did have an older Heuer serviced by him some years ago and he did a great job and took the time to discuss options with me as parts were scarce and the watch had a lot of sentimental value.

This being said, my recent repair/service was done by RSC Dallas. I wanted the RSC warranty, and they did a wonderful job as well.

HI New to the forum, so please be gentle.

I have a couple of vintage watches, one a precision has maybe been serviced twice since the 50's. A DJ from the 80's? That i don't think has been serviced, well not to my knowledge.

A 94 SS Sub and a 2006 Sd that have never been serviced since i bought them brand new at the AD in 94 and 06 respectively.

All watches work well and have no issues time keeping wise. However i was wondering recently if it was prudent to have the 2 older watches serviced.

But reading the jist of the thread they don't need serviced like we would do with a car.

The old adage "if it aint broken don't fix it". Would i be right in thinking this.

Also was a bit concerned with sending 2 vintage watches to RSC in regards originality.

ETA movements I would go with a reputable watchmaker for servicing. For Rolex I would normally go the RSC .

Hi, new to the forum. I have a vintage 1993 Air King bought new. It was serviced once almost 15 years ago through an AD. I now have a small chip on the sapphire crystal corner and while the watch works fine, the manual winding is not as smooth and binds a little. Anyway, spoke with the NYC RSC this morning and got an estimate of $180 for the crystal and a minimum of $600 for the service. So basically an almost $800 service. I live close by and can just drop it off. I saw some remarks about the NYC RSC work quality and am now wondering if those were outliers or I should try a different RSC. Thanks for such a great forum.

I'm in NJ as well and send mine to Dallas based on reviews I've read here. General consensus seems to be Dallas is great and NYC can be hit or miss.

I couldn't find a shipping service for less than £90 which was fully insured to the value of the watch.

So their handling charge is a great option.

RSC only in Australia otherwise you can't be sure because Rolex Australia does not allow anyone but Rolex to use genuine parts.
