Porsche Recall (may affect members here)

"While a driver can move the gear shift to the "Park" position, and even remove the ignition key under the impression that the vehicle is in park, the transmission may not be moving along with it, according to the recall.

Without any warning messages or chimes, a driver could wind up exiting the vehicle and watch it roll down the street unattended. Porsche says the issue could be due to the plastic bushing that attaches the cable connection between the gear shifter and the gearbox detaching.

Porsche learned about the issue in December 2018 and promptly commenced an internal investigation that found "numerous incidents" of detached cable bushings. The company said it hasn't learned of any injuries or property damage reports as a result of the issue. The recall will begin August 11, 2019 and, as a result, Porsche dealers will replace the shifter cable bushings."

Just saw a video of this happening on YouTube and didn’t understand the cause. Makes sense now.

Everyone knows that Porsches shouldn't come with transmissions that you can put in Park.

After going through what I felt was a nightmare of a recall with my BMW I feel for these owners. Disappointing, indeed but these things happen, seemingly. For me I just can't see myself owning a Porsche that isn't a 6 or 7 speed manual.

Here's to hoping the VW group acts as quickly as they can to take care of the owners and of course rectify the mechanical issue(s). This seemed to be the case with the Audi E Tron, so we'll see.

i still think 5 gears is enough. lol.

too much unecessary stuff is going into cars, and they forget to get the basics right,

ive got this ludicrous feature on my van called 'hill assist' shit i cant even turn it off, i dont need it, dident ask for it, and cant even block it.

I do miss my old 5 speed BMW a lot at times.

You're right about the overload of features. They're pretty much rushing these vehicles out there, with new models coming out every few months when you think of it. They're bound to mess up in some aspect, eventually.

The ones that really get to me are those putting people at greater risk or even worse. The Takata airbag debacle is case in point. People lost their lives because of it (may they rest in peace).

Really shocked the recall is affecting cars over 10 years old!

I think Porsche may have done this on purpose based on the models recalled.
