Let's get Philosophical

Dear forum members,

I thought, given the state of frustration, annoyance, anger and possible blood lust exhibited by many forum members regarding the Rolex Shortage, that it may be therapeutic, educational and fun for the membership to get philosophical about it.

Please share with us, from what great philosopher, from Plato to Mom and any and all in between, do you draw wisdom from when confronted with a situation where you can't immediately, or maybe ever, get what you want?

Sincerely,

pepsiretail

My solution: Go Zen.

We have no control over the supply situation at Rolex. We must recognize this simple fact. What we can do is make choices. Delaying the instant gratification we crave is difficult, but it is within our power. Easy? Oh, hell no! I'm a pretty patient guy, but when I lock in on something I fixate. The only way I can get over this is to do research, expand my knowledge, and ensure the object on which I'm fixating is truly the object I want. Often this investigation leads me to broaden my horizon and find alternatives to that elusive thing for which I'm Jonesing.

Though you can wind up a watch, don’t get wound up by a watch.

And on May 24th weekend (Victoria Day Weekend). Must be crappy 'philosophical' weather today in your neck of the woods in Canada?

Greed, i.e. hoarding and pursuit of material possessions, is a Deadly Sin !

That should keep you from lusting for those Daytonas and Sky-Dwellers

As is often the case, people are enthralled with spectacle as in this case, but the lyrics were dreamed up and written down and put to music by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans.

Perhaps they should get the credit.

The saying itself has been around for centuries.

Yes, you are correct.

I mentioned Doris Day because she passed away five days ago and took the opportunity to remember her.

I know I get it.

But sometimes I wonder if people get so childlike over movies that they forget that the actors are just acting out what is written by writers and directed by a director.

I see it all the time with macho John Wayne nonsense and others who seem to think that these actors actually wrote this stuff instead of some nerdy little guy and his typewriter working in a dark room churning out page after page of gems for actors to parrot to "all those wonderful people out there in the dark".

Probably almost everyone on this forum owns a Rolex.

How many do you need. 1, 2, 10, 100, all of them?

I'm content with my 1.

I don't really care what Rolex is up to.
