Can somebody please explain what writing the word "bump" does? I'm a millennial, I feel like I should know

Threads are sorted by last post date. If someone has an interest in keeping the thread towards the top they’ll simply write some low effort response like “bump” to push it back up.

So if, say, your post was now on page 3 because it's an older post, if you write bump then the post will move to the top of page 1?

No it bumps the thread up the list, not individual posts.

Of course writing "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" would achieve the same result...

I thought it was a dance, made famous by the British rock combo, Kenny, in the mid 1970s.

So then I guess the term 'bumping uglies', refers to favorably repositioning an ad that offers several unattractive watches.
