Black Bay BB58 925 Tarnishing

Here is an interesting video
Showing something that, should not be happening due to the alloy used by Tudor.
A Black Bay BB58 925 tarnishing

Mine is not showing any signs of this yet!

Interesting. Presumably you could just use a normal silver cleaner to remove the tarnishing?

Just watched the video, and although the tarnishing is only relatively minimal at the moment it doesn’t look too good in my opinion. Will be interesting to see if this is just a one off, or if more cases of significant tarnishing arise over the coming months.

Isn’t the 925 made of Argentium? An alloy with silver and germanium. I does leave a layer of oxidisation that’s yellow/white. It’s been around for a while but isn’t perfect.

Ag925/Al

on the case makes me think it's a Silver/Aluminum alloy...

But even Argentium (Silver / X / Germanium) is not Tarnish PROOF.

I don't know what you guys expected.....

When that's what's coming directly from the manufacturer, I would expect it wouldn't let me down in a million years.

It gives the watch character or it's going to be the watch for those who love polishing their timepieces.

Silver tarnish is caused by a chemical reaction with sulfur in the air and water. The amount of sulfur in your environment (even your diet or soap) can make a big difference at the rate of tarnish of silver.

Thoroughly washing the silver to remove body oils and then rinsing with distilled water can help. Then blow dry. Instead of water washing, Isopropyl alcohol based glasses wipes might be an alternative to blow drying.

Storing the silver in an air tight mylar plastic bag is most protective.

Hiding a bag of dessicant and a bag of activated charcoal in any storage container may also help to neutralize tarnishing chemicals.

Maybe that's why manufacturers have generally stayed away from silver cases...

Yes, it tarnishes. Silver objects have a tendency to tarnish.

In other news, water is wet.

Was that in the promo video?

Nothing on the website says it's Tarnish Proof.

Even in the promo articles I've read was that it was more "Tarnish Resistant" than standard Silver.

Even 18k tarnishes.

Review of silver 925 alloys:

https://theassayoffice.com/tarnish_resistant_labexpert

The alloy used by Tudor seems to include aluminium Ag925/Al stamp on caseback

For this particular BB925, I'll wait till all of them went tarnish like crazy then look to see the best looking tarnish one on used market. I like silver tarnishing, that is the characteristic why I choose to buy silver. If I want a metal that stay shiny then I'll choose stainless steel not silver. All my silver accessories looks super good after tarnish.
