Thanks everyone for the feedback. Decision made! SBGH051!!!
The dial is insane. It POPS! And the fact that only 35 were shipped to the US Boutiques in 2017 adds to the allure. I don’t know how many are left, if any. The Boutique said this is the last one (who knows *). This has the Dual Branding, which I like. It was between this and the 267. I like the 267, but the dial, as beautifully detailed as it is, felt too similar in color to other watches in my collection. The 051 is like no other. Appreciate the guidance by all!

Congrats!!! Honestly if I had seen that when I bought my 267 I would have been sorely tempted!! The dial looks incredible.

The Boutique also confirmed the dial on the 051 is lacquered. Pretty cool.

They are all beautiful! I do have a slight preference of the US LE 387 over the rest. The textured light blue dial is fantastic!

The fact that there are so many nice choices at the 6-7k price point is insane. Grand Seiko is doing well...except for marketing lol

Thanks, my friend! Thanks! Thank you! I agree, the GMT is incredible. That is a regular production so I may dip my toe back in later this year for it. The SBGH051 are pretty hard to find so I didn't want to let it go. Quote:
Thanks! It's listed as 40.2mm by Seiko. I absolutely love this case and the way it fits on the wrist. Thanks, Ken! Thanks, Danny! Rolex, Creed, GS...what's next?!?!

Apologies Stephen, I did not realize you have already pulled the trigger when I posted my comment. Your choice is great nonetheless! Tapered lug and a beautiful blue! What a first GS and this does looks great on you! Congrats!

I don't believe Grand Seiko is any more of an "independent company" than they were before. It was just a marketing decision. They're not even all made by the same company; Spring Drives and quartzes are made by Seiko Epson, mechanicals are made by Seiko Instruments, and they're all sold by Seiko Watch Corp if I'm not mistaken.

Stunner, congrats!
If you have any photos of the dial in the sun, they would be great to see. |

Is the 267 obtainable? I think it’s a limited edition.

Opinions: New to Grand Seiko
Guys, I pulled an audible.
While I loved the dial on the SBGH501, I felt the deep, dark lacquered (and therefore highly shiny) dial with the polished gold on the seconds hand and both logos made the watch quite “dressy”, and that contrasted sharply (IMHO) with the sportiness of the SS case and bracelet. It really is a beautiful watch. I also am a big fan of the dual logo on this watch, and since this is such a limited production for Boutiques only, it really may end up being a coveted Grand Seiko in the future. Ultimately, however, the highly acclaimed and renowned intricate details of the Grand Seiko dials won me over. When I was deciding initially, and even today, I was terribly torn between the calming and flawless white dialed SBGJ201 and the mind boggling blue dialed SBGH267. The Mount Iwate dial on the 201 is spectacular. It pops and may be the nicest of all the dials I’ve seen so far on GS (I’m very new to GS so I know I’m missing many other fantastic references!). I may end up with this one, too. But the dial, the case, and the lugs on the 267 called my name today. So in the end, I returned the 051 and left with the 267. We’ll see what the future holds, but the 267 will be my one and only GS for the time being. Thanks for reading and all of your thoughtful participation on my first GS journey.

I knew it! I was thinking... How is it possible anyone chooses between 4 different GS references, and walks away with just one...??!
