My Sea Dweller with a cyclops

I just received my ebay won SD on Wednesday and am really enjoying it. I knew it had the cyclops when I bought it but the price was too good to pass up for a late "F" with no-holes case and all boxes, papers, etc. I figured I'd just have the cyclops removed or replace the crystal. But, after receiving it I'm not as taken back by the cyclops as I thought I would be.

So, here's a poll to see what you folks think about my cyclops SD. By the way, contrary to some other threads indicating that a cyclops will not show the date properly because of the thickness of the SD crystal, not so. The date looks just like it does on the Sub and it's nice and clear. Go figure.

I don't think its WRONG or that it looks bad at all. But a Sea Dweller is what it is, and a Sub is what it is. I'd prefer the SD to be set apart.

I like swapping things like putting it on a NATO strap for a while but in the end I always put it back. I wouldn't chnage anything major like that.

What major, its a small piece of sapphire and some super glue, a steady hand or some alignment tape. If you mess it up, you get out a straight blade and zip 'er off and do it over...
Badda bing badda bang, easy peasy...

So, is it added, a wrong crystal,(they are different) or is it a fake?

I should have mentioned that the cyclops was added by the original owner's Rolex (AD) watchmaker to the original Sea Dweller crystal and is an original Rolex cyclops.

Never understood why it wasn't on there to begin with, if you are going to goober up a dive watch with a date complication, go for the gold. I voted to keep it. You can always chisel it off.

Love the cyclops at 40YO it is a bonus you can see the date without squinting. Also you do not have to chisel it off if it displeases you, just check how to remove the cyclops on this forum.

Interesting to see the cyclops on an SD. I have liked the cyclops ever since I became aware of Rolex watches over 25 years ago, and I am also guilty of "messing" with my Sub-Date by putting it on a NATO recently. It is your watch, so if you like the cyclops, keep it.

It is not for me, I prefer my SD the way it came from Rolex but to each their own. I agree looks too much like a Sub.

Is it only me that think the watch looks wrong?

The letters at the dial and the numbers at the bezelinsert looks wrong IMHO.

I can be wrong or the pics not showing the watch correct.

What do you think about it?

Jocke

Since it's my watch I'd like to hear what everyone says. My watchmaker in Winter Park authenticated it yesterday, including the movement inside.

I think it looks like a fake with that and also Id question if it was really done by an AD as in the US AD's are not supposed to do that. Is it even a real Rolex Crystal (can you see the crown at 6 and if so does it have a S in it?)
If you send it in to Rolex they will not work on it unless you replace it I am pretty sure.
If you want a cyclops go get a Sub.
YUCH!!!

I guess I have to be even more specific than my last post. YES, the crystal is the original SD crystal that came with the watch when it was new! And, YES, it does have the coronet in the right place. And, NO it does not have an "S" inside the coronet indicating it is a service crystal. And, YES, it was installed by the original Rolex AD who is Justice Jewelers in Springfield Missouri. (I have the receipt for the original purchase of the watch and the receipt for the 'after the sale' cyclops installation). It was done after the purchase so, Rolex had nothing to say about it. Since the warranty is expired, that is not a factor either.

As for looking like a fake, I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it yet but, if I do, I don't care what anyone else thinks. When you say it looks like a fake, are you taking into consideration that there are probably more fake Rolexes out there that look real than there are real Rolexes? So why be presumptuous over a cyclops?

So, I guess you voted for the second choice, huh?

Not true. I know for a fact that the RSC in Dallas will service a SD with a crystal with a cyclops because a friend of mine had a cyclops added so he could read the date. If you are talking about te Laser etched crown that's only on the newer crystals so because it's not there doesn't mean it's not a Rolex crystal. The cyclops could've been added to the original crystal as well. To the op I like the cyclops. Makes the date much easier to read. IMO there is nothing wrong with it. Wow this was an old thread. Lol

Correct. The crystal on my SD is the original Rolex crystal with laser etching (not a service cystal) and, it's been serviced by a Rolex trained watch maker in Winter Park Florida. The watch is 100% real. And, he tells me he can remove the cyclops any time I ask and still pressure test it afterwards. So, many misconceptions by some misinformed people. Yes, it's a frankenwatch but can be returned to bone stock very quickly and with little cost.

Any way, as some have said, It's my watch and I'm happy with it. It's fun reading how polarizing this topic has become, though. Maybe it's time to close it.
