I would buy preowned and go for a Explorer 2 polar dial or a new model Datejust.

THIS is one of the most beautiful chronos I have ever seen. Where did you buy from AND how big is it?

I would focus on what you like, then try to source it for the lowest price possible from a reputable source. Thats what I would do

I just purchased a pre-owned JLC Master Compressor Dualmatic for roughly around that price and I love it

I just bought an Explorer 214270 and I have had a hard time taking it off. First Rolex for me, own a couple of Omegas, and it is hard to compare them. Love the Omegas but Rolex is different. The bracelet, clasp, movement and overall feel between the brands makes them unique.

So to answer, I would buy new but the brand is tough to say. First luxury watch? Adding to a collection? If I were buying as a one watch everyday, it would be either a white or black 39mmOP. But probably white so I could get a 214270 later :)

Best buy now at that price in my opinion is a new or used new model Rolex Air King. Also I would stick to Rolex, and used Omega, IWC, etc.

OP,

It all depends (obviously) on what you want.

For me I really want a 'coke' rolex GMT, but do not want to tie up that much capital in one. I also cannot bring myself to scratch up such a nice piece with normal wear.

So...I am looking at picking up a Steinhart Ocean 39 GMT for ~ 500 eur. If it gets beat up a bit no problem. The rest of the funds go into income generating pursuits.

Easy. Omega Speedmaster Pro or Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial.

Save more $ and get a better new Rolex.

I see no indication the OP was interested in buying anything.

I'd buy a Speedy Pro. When the current lineup with 1861 movement is retired (this year), retail on a Speedy Pro will exceed 6k. It's a classic watch at a good price and comes with nice presentation.
