Rib-Fest!

So, it was a long weekend in Canada, and in London, Ontario they had their 17th annual Rib-Fest. We went today (and baked in the heat) to eat some ribs.......

We tried sauces from several places, and decided on 2 places to get ribs from, one was Honey Huckers, and the other was Bibb's.

Honey Huckers ribs were good - sweet sauce.......

Pictures of the wife and I digging into that rack.......

Round 2 was from Bibb's, a smokey-hickory sauce this time - very nice, complete with some beans and cold applesauce........

And then we topped it off by splitting a Beavertail, and some cherry lemonade.......

Here's a shot of some of the competitors........

It was very good!!

Nice way to spend the afternoon before going back to the grind tomorrow. Certainly had enough to eat, so a light dinner was in order. Beauty, eh?!

I'm glad I finished dinner before opening this thread, Al. Those ribs look mouth watering good. Nothing like a good meaty rack of ribs on a beautiful day to make it all worthwhile.

Al and Jacqui, great pics, and the two of you look so nice. Can't believe I actually met you guys just 8 months ago (Dec. 2nd to be exact).

Those ribs needed some hot Indian sauce to give you that added punch LOL!

BTW, Al, have you grown a moustache? Wasn't there the last time! Showed the pics to Zemina who says Hi!!

Sorry for anyone who opened these at the wrong time and got a real hunger on......well, not really.

The ribs were fantastic, and the weather was nice, but a bit hot. It was 35 degress C downtown, not including the humidity, and that added another 5 degrees to what it felt like. I had to be careful not to get my head burnt while standing in the sun.....not as big of a concern as JJ has, but still a concern......

JJ, yes, there is a moustache there, but for how long I don't know. When I met my wife, I had one, and through 2 years before we were married, and 10 after, she had never seen me without one. Then I went to a training camp in Montreal for a few days (preparing for an international tournament with my team members) and after drinking a bathtub full of beer one night we had the bright idea to dye our hair blonde. The mainly black moustache did not go well with blonde hair, so I shaved it off (my wife was subjected to two shocks when I arrived home at 2:00 am one morning after the camp!). Since then, it's been off, but last week we had our annual plant shutdown (busy for us engineering types doing project work) and we have the "shutdown beard" tradition. She wanted me to keep it all, but it's too hot and itchy to keep anything but the moustache and the little bit under my bottom lip (that you can't see in the photo). It's all much whiter than when I shaved it off 6 years ago.......

Okay, now I'm hungry looking at all those photos again!

The same ribfest was here on Sparks St. about a month or six weeks ago. Same vendors... it's a travelling carnival, or something. Great ribs, but expensive for what you get.

I once had a moustachio years and years ago... A blond 'Lanny MacDonald' type. Prolly explains why I went through a dry patch with the ladies.

Lanny McDonal eh? You must have been a real hit with the ladies.

As long as you were not sporting the same tired helmet he wore while racing bikes you would have been okay!! LMAO!!!

Get your butt back here posting, we all miss you around these parts!!

C'mon Earl, get your mind out of the gutter, eh? ;-)

The ribs were a bit on the pricey side, depending on how much you eat, I guess. We bought 2 half-racks, at $12 each. One half turned into a full - the guy gave us a full rack because the ribs were a bit small.

Being a rib fan, it was a small price to pay for some great ribs. One thing I envy about the US (probably the only thing?) is that you make good ribs.........oh how I wish there was a decent chain up here like Damon's, or better yet a Montgomery Inn (probably the best ribs I've ever had). We have a Tony Roma's nearby, but quite frankly they are not very good.

I guess until next year, or until a trip to the US on business, I'll be using some of the sauce I bought this weekend.

Hey Al, don't you guys in London have a 'Baton Rouge' yet? They have one in Markham and I went there a couple of times and their ribs are amazing. I just found out they have one in Kanata, so we may venture out there soon. Recently dined at the original 'Lone Star' tex-mex... man do I love a good burito.

JJ, "she who must be obeyed" also dined at the same place. I think we'd likely cancel each other out.

This is true, but makes for excellent blue angels, and the riotous laughter that follows.
