Tudor Big Block 791xx hands (silver dial)

Hello

I’m not much of a poster, but am considering a silver dialled Big Block and wondered if I might ask a hour and minute hand question?

The hands are dark to contrast against the light dial, but one I am considering has the appearance in the photo below. It’s the only image I have until the seller responds. The coloured rings almost make me think that steel hands were burnished with heat in some way to get that appearance. Is that how the hands were finished, and do you think these look about right for a 30 year old watch, or really not right at all?

Thank you

Dave

It could be oxidation from moisture over time, hard to tell from one pic. They were polished originally.

Think it's fine as dP says.

Check the engravings both ends and put up a photo of dial pls.

There are three subtly different silver variants.... light silver, blue silver and grey silver and two so-called marks (Mk's) - one with bevelled HR markers one without and one with date window frame and one without - the A-C Time is slightly different placing too. Rgds P

That does appear to look like a heat related mark but as mentioned by dp probably oxidation. More photos are needed to see it for what it is

Thank you very much all.

Unfortunately the seller is in Japan (Chrono24) and when I asked about some specific photos replied that there the pictures posted and the text description were enough. I won’t post the link, but it is the cheapest full set 79170 on that platform,

Oxidation makes sense, and maybe I shouldn’t get concerned about a 32 year old watch.

Thanks again for the input

Dave

Just the opposite. You should be concerned anytime a seller tells you what they've already provided is enough AND the price is too good to be true, IMHO.

.
Saw the ad on Chrono:

https://www.chrono24.com/tudor/---79...id29855493.htm

He also has it listed on Ebay:

... and his "negative" feedback paints his true demeanor:

Good unearthing.

Have to say, and reminded by seeing their Closer eBay listing logo, that I’ve bought 4 or 5 from them in last few years (weirdly they often - when they have a few - discount say a fig of 15% to 35% on already cheapish prices and it offsets any Import charges) and the watches were fine (totally unmolested), but not mint.

A buy cheaply, pile-em-up and sell @ tiny margins outfit (most pieces sub £6k), that makes ‘watchfinder’ outfit look bijou.

They are especially keenly priced on slightly scruffy, but 100% original, 75090, 79090 and 79260/70/80 Arabic’s incl Rolex crown/cb versions I found.

They have a truly huge inventory of 8,500 items (seven + big blocks below) that takes ages to scroll through, and 49,000 sales, with 17,000 total sales feedbacks.

Hi Dave
I’m sure if you look closer to home you’ll get something here in the uk. I noticed you are in Ormskirk we have got some great pre owned dealers around the area.

Actually it’s not that Watch @ Closer in Japan, that’s a later T SWISS MADE T one.

It’s this one https://www.chrono24.co.uk/tudor/tud...id32017064.htm

Point being though, Japan is very cheap for some Tudors incl big and Small Blocks and some subs…..

Must update my profile. Prescot, but still in the North West.

I should take my time, but if you have any suggested dealers I would be grateful for a heads up.

Thank you

Dave

I think the Yen isn’t the strongest. It would require some faith as they wont provide any further images, and obviously inspection isn’t an option and the distance selling rules we have in the UK don’t apply.

Thinking about Dan’s earlier comment, I am close to Milton’s in Liverpool, who is one of the most dependable pre-owned Rolex dealers in the UK, I’m sure Mr Milton (Haywood) is well known here. He doesn’t send any more photographs of his watches either

Btw C24 has escrow payment rules....they only release funds to seller, if and when you are happy with the watch.

Does it have to be a 79160 or are you open to other versions?

79170, I’ve always been partial to the 79170, 12h bezel and silver dial rather than black.

I think you must be close to Manchester, almost makes us neighbours

Completely agree, the 12 hour rotating bezel adds so much functionality. I've owned both the black & silver dials and loved them equally.

As closure, my impulsive purchase from Japan finally made it to the UK today.

To say expectations have been exceeded is quite an understatement. Full set 79170, down to punched papers and hang tags.

I’m blown away, I’ve wanted one of these for at least 7 years, and couldn’t be more delighted.

Thank you to forum stalwarts for enabling when I was hesitating

Thanks TRF

Dave

Thanks Dan. It really is!

Delighted to be in the vintage Tudor club, with a head only black 94010 snowflake to pick up on Tuesday.
