To the people that took the time to write a decent reply - thank you. I thought given the price of the grey market the way it is now, shortage of SS in the market - me asking this question would provide some interesting opinions.
Yep. Folks on here can be quite rude at times. Don't really understand the need to behave that way. We're just here to blow off some steam and relax. Some are wound a little too tightly. Best just to ignore them.

As far as investments go, it's a matter of timing and some luck. Who knew the Paul Newman Daytona would be worth millions? Of the modern day offerings, bet the SD43 will do well as will the DSSD Deep Blue. Daytona 116520 has done quite well too and believe it will continue to do well.

OP, if your budget won't afford a Hulk or Daytona you will most likely be sticker shocked when searching for a 5 digit Pepsi GMT complete set. Especially if you want mint/unpolished with box/booklets/accessories.

Any watch that you trade for bitcoins ;)

Having said that I sold my bitcoins 2-3 years ago to pay for an engagement ring... that ring is now worth close to a mill 😩 haha.

The hulk was money well spent :)

I'm banging my money on the air king 116900....

It's of a good size with a unique dial, not necessarily beautiful in today taste, has the easy link 5mm, importantly it's one of it's kind... It's the only modern air king ie no other dials to chose from example milguass which has 3, no other material to chose from example sub which has gold, 2 tone, stainless steel and its still one of the most affordable around

What u guys think

The only one which will give you some extra bucks will the the Rolex Daytona 116500 or you buy at LIST PRICE - that’s 100% sure.

The rest - it’s just assumptions or guessing...

Anyway - you shall buy a watch to enjoy and wear it every single day

no current line up watch is an investment

you may have some modest increase in value but Rolex is more to hold value than make money or at least not lose significant value when you walk out AD doors

I believe the 116600 won’t get true collectible status for another 5-10 years, but once they are unobtanium, specially as a full kit with the original clasp (I’ve seen many that have a SubC clasp), I believe these will be selling for much more than twice their MSRP.

That said, I think it’s a watch to enjoy for a very long time, and giving it to my kids or grandkids will be the bigger payoff. Yes, I could make some money on one, but Time is the multiplier of an investment, and how I spend mine, and the quality of enjoyment with its passing is of the greatest value to me.

I could invest $10k in the best stock in the world and make an boatload off it, but if I don’t cash out before I move on, much of that gain will be loss (ah death taxes) and headache to my family.

I do understand the idea of picking a watch that you feel will hold its value while you enjoy it. One that actually appreciates a little as the scratches accumulate could add a bit of excitement.

And we have the winner here. Best answer, and should be heavily contemplated.

What watch would you buy now from an investment point of view? My budget atm won't stretch to an Hulk or Daytona.

Any opinions welcome.
Vintage for investment.

Just because you’ve posted 1,000 times about your explorer doesn’t make it true.

What is true is that you’re complaining about not enjoying the topics instead of adding to them. If you’ve got nothing to say that will add to the discussion, just move on.

What makes it true is the fact that it’s already happening on the used market. My words are just words. Truth is in the market-easy for anyone to observe. You seem overly wound and ready for a breaky.

All stainless Rolexes have gone up in value over the course of the last year. Usinf your logic, every stainless Rolex is destined to be a future collectible.

Not true. But using my logic my collection is growing in value far and above the scarcity side of supply and demand.

The 50th anniversary Sea-Dweller. Would probably be my best bet.

These "watch" investment questions are met with such venom because many members see them as annoying.

They are annoying because, to them, an $8,000 watch that might turn into a $15,000 watch is irrelevant. It isn't enough money to be concerned about either way, so the topic is irritating, boring and doesn't pertain to them in any fashion.

Investing is work and it leads to big long term returns garnered from that work. Watches are purchased with money that isn't really relevant, so neither is the value of the watch.

Buy up all the Cellinis that you can and try to corner the Cellini market. On watch speculation, who knows.

Investing in a rolex is much better on the long run than investing in warren's funds / portfolio
