Maybe the guy has zero interest in watches other than to tell the time and just wanted a reasonable priced functioning watch or maybe it was a gift. Whatever.

Not everyone wants to spend thousands on a watch, can't see how it reflects on his medical knowledge.

I notice watches, and don't recall one doctor with an expensive watch. So my supposition all long has been this is the established norms in the profession.

If that's the case, I think it is good practice.

While this isn’t probably the right forum to discuss the merits of various healthcare models, I do feel saddened by my own experiences, that is all I can really comment upon. I am happy that some of my other UK colleagues have not encountered similar issues and feel able/comfortable wearing their watches to work, it’s just not been my own experience. It also applies to cars, me and my partners are careful to park expensive cars out of sight and those with second cars/‘run arounds’ usually bring them to work, again I’m happy if others don’t feel this way. Don’t get me wrong, the NHS does have some merits, especially for those that would otherwise be left behind in a more commercialised model. With regard to Castro... I don’t think my comments apply to champagne socialists LOL!

I was paying $800 a month to be covered in the USA and had to spend $7000 for it to even be used. So now I’m paying $250 a year to be covered in the USA with no deductible. I just have to step foot in Canada for a day every 30 days, or pay about $5 a day until I return.

Weather it’s right or wrong you can’t blame someone in the US who has to declare bankruptcy due to medical costs or has their house leaned to be upset seeing the doctors parking lot full of Porsche’s and Ferrari’s.

medicine is soaking up 25% of our economy. doctors also often act condescending, but I was a far better student than the average person heading to a US med school anyway. its not the pinnacle of society IMO but they can go ahead and wear a Rolex, that aspect doesn't bother me

Just a PhD, but I waited until my later years as a psychotherapist to wear the watches I wanted to wear. I didn’t want to cast any images that would distract from my work. In my later years I wore everything from a Sub to a Day-Date. I guess I got too old to care and patients would never care what a fifty-year-old was wearing.

This Dr does. Either a Milgauss or Submariner.
If I have a WIS patient they will often strike up conversation about it and it breaks down barriers. Not consciously aware of anyone judging me the other way but were they to do so I would observe it with wry amusement in the knowledge it is telling me something useful about their own prejudices and psychopathology.

As a physician I will agree that healthcare in this country is broken, but I wish I could tell you that the MDs are getting as much as you think. When looking at those crazy hospital bills of 100k plus for staying, the physician component is minuscule in that overall bill. The overwhelming majority goes to medications.
Medicine costs in the US are absurd.
And it gets worse every year. Medicare reimbursement for a procedure that I commonly perform went down by 20% this year alone.

I do not wear any of my watches while treating patients. I just think it sends the wrong message. That’s me personally.

Have I forgotten and left a 67-01 or 67-02 on yes, but I feel like that’s the least of my concerns as patients would have no idea what the RM is.

I truly think it depends on where you practice. My main practice is in a smaller Denver suburb with a much lower median income. If I were practicing in my city location, I think it’s a totally different story.

Emergency physician here. I wore a Rolex every day. The only people who ever commented on my watch were career criminals and gangsters, and they always gave me a wink and a chuckle when they did.

Don’t know about Drs. But when I was a Fire LT. / EMT I wore a Explorer II and my Irons man a GMT . Our first in district was full of Dr. and other professionals, one EMS run, the PT was wearing a Rolex, but kept looking at ours with a look of puzzlement .
