Red Sub - should I?

Would like to seek opinion on whether I should ask watchmaker to help put on the missing part of the "E" of the word "Date". Perosnally I would like to see it complete.

Should I?

Is it an easy work (for watchmaker)?

"Rolex bracelet codes are found on the inner part of the Rolex bracelet clasp and started in the 1950’s when Rolex also began stamping the inner caseback of their watches. for mk 1 and mk 2 red subs, the 700 crown with no dots should be period correct. But do exercise caution with regards to waterproof-ness.

No, leave it as-is. My 16520 Daytona that I bought brand new has the "S" in "OYSTER" that is slightly misprinted. I didn't even notice it for the first 12 years or so but when I finally did, I figured it made it unique and even more "mine" than before.

Just curious, will peeps here think that it is not authentic when looking at this watch itself? Since we generally look every small details. To me, whether the OP did it or leave it , the price will be reflected if ever want to sell it off later?

I see it as a minor issue and although some WIS may pass on it, most will be ok if all else looks good.

Sell the watch and buy one which you don’t have problems with. This is a non-issue for most people but if you are bothered it is smarter to find another example instead of touching up this one. Plenty of red subs around to find one without this tiny issue.

I noticed the “R” in oyster is slightly chipped as well.
I think it is all very minor and if the watch overall is nice condition with matching patina, I wouldn’t let that stop me from buying it. Only natural when a watch shows it’s age and minor flaws such as this are acceptable. Just pay accordingly.

Personally, I would have no interest in a dial that has been refinished, repaired, etc. If you plan on keeping it forever and selling is not an option, you should do whatever makes you happiest!

The dial has almost certainly been like this since new - if you look around a lot you’ll find other metres first dials with this same defect. Don’t touch it.

My 9315 does not (but it’s a little later mk 4, with 1970 Caseback stamp). Yes original crown should be “700” without dots.
