I have the old style Sub Date, and SD and I love them... however, if I didn't have them and I was in a market for one, then I would get the new style Sub C!

I haven't tried on the new one so hard to say... does anyone have a side by side comparison shot?

Nothing very negative about the new version,
but I have a 14060, and that makes my preference pretty obvious! |

I prefer the 1680 Submariner more than any other Submariner.
When you think about it the 1680 Submariner hasn't been built for 30 years now but it still keeps chronometer accuracy and exudes vintage style back to the 1970's. It's the watch that you can wear today and you will be wearing it just as well in 20 years or more.

The New sub is just not doing it for me. It seems like too much of a departure from the tried and true design.
That being said I never warmed to the new GMT either. I owned on for almost 2 years and could not come to terms with it. I sold it this week. -Eddie

I would like to have the new one, adding a little money after selling my old one.

Old v New
I previously owned a 1992 Sub T/T black face. I now have a new 2010 Ceramic Blue face T/T. I prefer the new one, the blue looks different shades in different lights giving more interest than the black, which is always, how can I put it? Black. I like the night-time almost black shade over the more vivid blue, as it appears in daylight. Try looking at a blue one in soft yellow room light and then shine a torch on it to see what I mean. The clincher for me though is the new Glide-lock clasp. Solid and easy to adjust. I always thought the clasp on the old watch let the whole watch down, mine did not even have the gold insert, the assembly just felt cheap and tinny, but that's only IMHO. |

I like the old style a little better, and was sure to snag one while they were still available new. The link to the past is what makes the Sub special for me, and I think the new Subs deviate just a little too much for my tastes. There is no question, however, that if the Sub was first introduced today with no history behind it, I'd prefer the new version.

Let me be clear about this, I don't dislike the new Sub-C... But, In the mind of a 40 year old like me, who grew up in the 70's and 80's seeing "curvy" Rolexes swinging away around dozens of wrists, it's probably gonna take another 40 years for me to update my taste on liking these new watches BETTER than my 16610LV!

If my gut is right about the sensation this poll is giving me, the old Subs (everything not square case, no Glidelock clasp, no ceramic bezel) are soon to be consider as "Highly Desireable", or if you wish to call them "Rare" or "Vintage" now, go ahead...

since I have a new GMT-IIC - it would be silly for me to get the new sub.
So, the old ones are starting to look more interesting to me now. |

I voted both - they are both great and I can see traditionalists going with the original but the case and ceramic bezel really do grow on you!

F-series LV, or the old black ones are beautiful and classic. I love my LV and I battle with flipping it for my new DSSD. But I think the Sub C is beautiful and will grow a loyal following soon. The GMT C is another matter...will always love the old ones (Pepsi, Coke, or black).
