Hi guys,

On Saturday afternoon, Zemina and I ambled over to my local AD just to have a look at the new Sub-C.

The owner himself was there and the first thing he noticed was my 16610 which, in fact, I had purchased from him in April of this year.

His very first words after the formal greetings: "Hang onto that Sub, JJ...........production of the same has been virtually stopped by Rolex and it won't be available any more. In fact, I'm thinking of getting one for myself!!"

Well, I guess, my earlier advice on grabbing one for yourselves wasn't too far off the mark.

To those who have one................my advice is to hang onto it. For those who don't............try and grab one while they are still available.

Hi JJ,

Great that you are happy with your classic 16610, but I disagree that it is the correct move to purchase one now, I recommend to buy the 116610LN now, because you will NEVER be able to purchase it cheaper then now with Rolex 2-5% raises every year...

In 20 years time I still think that a purchased 116610LN will prove to be the correct move to have bought, there is simply way to many 16610 around and even now you can buy a used 16610 for as little as 3000-3500 USD

Well, this is NOT the right time to buy one, 'cause ADs are asking FULL price and availability is very limited.

If you really want a new Sub-C, wait for another year when there are more pieces available in the market and then discounts would also be available.

Remember how the DSSD and Milguass came in with a bang and are now selling at a whimper?

There are so many 16610s out there that I don't really agree that you need to get one now. I think a more collectible newer watch is the GMT IIc TT with the green face since there seem to be not that many around.

Agree that there are many 16610 out there and some are priced quite cheaply. If you all remember the 50th anniversary model was manufactured for several years past the actual anniversary year and thus lost, IMHO, its unique status an an "anniversary" model.

The 16610 will take a little time to become less common, but in 20 years it will be fairly collectable.

The same could be said for the pepsi models.

It might not be bad to pick one up for later savings. There were so many produced that they are still fairly easy to find.

I bought two black OEM bezels for my 50th Ann. version and put one of them on; she looked like a different and new watch. The other bezel is for when I give the watch to one of my sons as spare.

I wonder what effect the decline of the baby boom generation will have on collectable items. It might be that 20 to 30 years from now there wont be a demand for high end watches except for the truly rare ones because most youngsters I know nowadays use moblie phone to tell time. Most kids seem to think vintage is a fancy word for old & used!

was available from the factory in 18

Yes, it would be...........and you're right. The GREEN dial GMT-IIC is fitted only on the full gold model.

Well, it certainly was very impressive with the superb new bracelet, solid block case and maxi dial.

However, when I placed it side-by-side next to my current Sub, I just couldn't justify the enormous price difference (since no discounts are available at present)!!

But, yes, the watch is very, very impressive!!

Why, weren't like a b-gillion of those made? It's not like it will really be a rarity, or am I off the mark on this one?

No, it will not. Rolex has made far too many 16610s for them to ever (in your lifetime) cross the threshold into "rarity" which would be required for them to be be collectible.

Prices go up when demand exceeds supply. There were a TON of 16610s made, and I'm not altogether sure that future demand will become great enough to cause any worthwhile increase in pricing.

If the goal is to maximize your return on investment, for the same amount of money that a mint 16610 would run now, you'd be better off scoring a decent condition 1680 or 5513 IMO. Heck, you could get a matte dial 16800 with all bells and whistles for the same price, and there were far fewer transitional subs made.
