Submariner vs sea master 300

Hi all,

Probably the wrong place to ask, but here goes, having trouble in choosing which watch to buy and just interested in what your opinions are in these two, see what watch lovers think, I do understand I have to buy the one that most attracts me but they both do and unfortunately can’t justify buying both.....don’t want a divorce yet...
The models are the omega sea master 300 007 edition or a sub no date.

Do you want to be the real James Bond or the fake James Bond?

I own a Seamaster (pierce Brosnan 007 era). I'm not keen on the newer Seamaster 300 models but it's a matter of taste. As of present day I'd go with the sub.

I’ve had the (non Bond) 300. I wanted to love it. I liked it...but ultimately sold it as it just didn’t hold my interest. I will never sell my sub. Buy what you like but if you can only have one...get the sub

I am a huge Omega fan, but I dislike the fake patina they displayed on some of their newer watches. Now with that being said, if it was a normal Diver 300 versus the Sub ND, I would pick the Diver 300. But the Sub ND vs faux patina'd Diver 300?

Sub ND all day.

You cannot go wrong with either....IMHO the Sub will one day be worth more than you paid, not so with the 300-007... no way no how

The 114060 is my favorite watch so it gets my vote.

Really like that new Omega. Would be a bit more unique than the Sub

I would opt for the standard SMP 300 then put the change you have saved towards a 114060.

That’s exactly what I am doing. Best of both worlds

I think of these two, I'd take the Sub. I think the SM300 is a more worthy comparison, and nonetheless I think there is room for both a Sub AND SMP in a collection :).

The seamaster 300 is a great watch, but that one in particular is rubbish. The last nice ones were the 300C models with waveless dials.

1) overdone fake tritium patina markers that are actually luminova.

2) unsightly fit gap between an end-linkless milanese mesh and the watch head. Looks half finished.

3) horrible garish replica 1960's era british ministry of defence markings on the case back.

4) conical He release valve. Just wrong, and actually harder to manipulate that the cylindrical one it replaced.

5) It's titanium and will scratch easily and not polish easily.

6) Daniel Craig personally designed that model. Great actor, arguably the best bond ever (hard to prove either way and subjective), but what I do know is he is no Gerald Genta and can't design a watch I would want to pay for.

I own a couple of Omegas and in my opinion in general they are absolutely the equal of Rolex in terms of fit, finish and overall quality.

However this particular Omega has some problems: I think the 007 gimmick is cheesy and a bit cringeworthy and, more significantly, that carbuncle of an HEV wrecks the watch.

Sub >>>>> Daylight >>>>> Seamaster

Really like the sea master, but kind of think the sub is my bench mark, and if I get the sea master I would still have the urge to buy the sub....mmmmmmm

Ps: another factor is you can actually walk in to an AD and buy the SMP. That sub is more of a theoretical watch that isn't actually available at any authorized dealer.

I really like the new Seamasters. I think they're fun and sporty, especially on the rubber strap. I'd still always choose a sub given the choice with all else being equal. However, these days a sub costs more than twice as much. Dollar-for-dollar, it's hard not to see the Seamaster as the winner.

That said, I'm not a big fan of that one in particular. The closed caseback and mesh bracelet don't do much for me.

Big fan of Omega, have a few, but as someone said I personally don't like the gimmicky Bond thing, so Sub gets my vote in this specific head-2-head.

Well put. Also the the Seamaster movement is superior. Still I love both.

Submariner is one of the most iconic watch in the watch world. James Bond use to wear it and you wouldn’t lose money with the submariner, so 100% submariner for me!

Out of those two, the Sub walks it. At least for me.

It's up to you. You don't want to wear a watch chosen by strangers do you?

The question is, do you really want one of these particular models? If you are not having any trouble resisting the impulse to buy one of these, and you don't particularly mind which one you end up with, could it be that neither of them are calling to you strongly enough?

The Omega is grade 2 titanium. For me, any watch with a screw down crown made from grade 2 is immediately disqualified. Grade 2 titanium is not what you want.

Rolex wins this one easily. The Submariner is the benchmark.

The Omega movement is much more modern and better.
In terms of product quality it is very similar.

Definitely the Sub. Whenever I wear mine, I am reminded what a great watch it is. Everything is designed to work so seamlessly, from the bezel to the glidelock bracelet adjustment. A fantastic watch overall.

Submariner vs sea master 300

Aesthetically I would pick the Submariner hands down everytime between these 2. However, on paper the Omega is built better and therefore much better value. Or at least that’s what marketing says

I have 6 rolexes, but love the SMP 300m Diver on rubber. Great value. Paid $3800.

It’s a simple choice between the authentic James Bond watch or the Omega/Daniel Craig frankenwatch

Ian wore an Explorer. Fleming never specified in any of the books he wrote which Rolex model Bond wore. But he wore a Rolex for sure in the books and in the early Connery films. Rolex had nothing to do with that whatsoever. Bond wearing an omega, however, was a pure business arrangement between the filmmakers and Omega. That came about because of a marketing deal much later on engineered by Jean Claude Biver when he ran Omega.
