I really think you should see it person and decide. The date is small, unobtrusive, and blends well with the piece. Plus font is killer.

Took about an hour to sell out. I had one in my cart and just couldn’t pull the trigger. I think it’s a beautiful piece, but the number font is a deal breaker for me. I just can’t get on board with it…

Agreed! If i didn’t already own the base titanium version, i may have pulled the trigger. Good work.

Edit: the price is a bit much, though….

I wish Hodinkee allowed comments on the shop offerings.

Not sure I could get on with the silver numerals on top a taupe dial.
But love the colors of the dial and the strap - almost a vintage look. Suits the watch.

I think it looks great, though I prefer the original.
You can still scoop one on the Hermes website if you want one.

No shipping outside US. Made in Switzerland but not for sale in Europe. What load of crock.

Looking at the images from the Hermès website. It seems their version doesn’t have the HODINKEE branding on the case back and also is limited to 184 pieces.

Hmmm…does this mean there are really 284 pieces of this “limited” edition???

HODINKEE

Hermès

I’ve got to say - this seems a little disingenuous. Or at least odd.

So, the limited edition with Hodinkee is the same as the 184 piece version except that the latter doesn’t say Hodinkee? Just kind of strange?

Doesn’t change my thoughts on the watch, but it just seems like a weird piece of information to obscure.

Also, the Hermès version does not mention Hodinkee, even on the site.

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. The HODINKEE version is limited to 100 pieces. Per the picture on the Hermès site it shows 184 pieces for their version. Like you stated, there is no mention of HODINKEE on the Hermès site or the fact that it’s a limited piece.

Being the cynic I am, I wouldn’t be surprised if both HODINKEE and Hermès had their own limited release of 100 and 184 respectively.

Great piece but hate that tiny 430 date window.

Correct imho. The only difference is 100 will be stamped Hodinkee and 184 will not carry that stamp. You would like to think there would be other subtle differences but I've not studied the release close enough

Wow. This is honestly incredible and I can't believe that nobody is making a bigger deal about this? How does Hermes post at the exact same moment the same LE watch that Hodinkee "designed" (without the word HODINKEE on it no less or credit to them) and without a mention from either party?!

If this is true, I’d be demanding a refund.

Then again, if anybody thinks HODINKEE is out for anything except money, well…

It'd be one thing if they jointly announced ~250 pieces, 125 each etc (which has been done several times before), but both basically seem to have just offered it up independently at the same time. It is one of the weirdest things I have seen. Anyway, seems 7 are still left on the Hermes website at this point... at least that is the maximum my cart will allow for - down from 10 yesterday.

Maybe this is why Hodinkee disabled comments for the launch article….

I guess I found a real bombshell there yesterday....Anyway, on to sunnier topics:
1. The Only Watch releases today are cool. Love the ring color. I think Hermes knows they have a launch pad with this watch. Can't wait to see all the variations.
2. Someone on IG mentioned the Barton silicone straps work well with the H08, so if you are wanting to spice up yours, they are only $20. I wonder if they accept the Hermes clasp - which is money.
3. Mine feels almost nautical looking at times, with the slightly domed crystal and funky numbers and round/square offset. Anyone else get that sea vibe?

Well, if you bought the watch because it was a LE and you wanted to flip it, that is unfortunate but you probably shouldn’t do that. The fact that it is on Hermès’ website doesn’t change the fact that it is an awesome watch. However, it is just crazy that there was no reference to the Hermès launch at Hodinkee (or that an additional 178 pieces were sold), and vice versa. Maybe not dishonest, but just so strange. It should have been addressed, and it still should be explained IMO.

As someone who owns and very much enjoys one of the original versions of the H08, it’s fun to see a new iteration. It’s nicely done, and I appreciate how many aspects they changed to make it their own. That said, I much prefer my stock version.

Does anybody know if Hermes acknowledges the desire for a shorter strap? This was the singular reason I didn’t buy this…The length of the strap excess looks ridiculous on smaller wrists.

It’s somewhat moot for me now as I went with a Santos de Cartier instead. But it would be good to know they are considering it for the future.

Funny enough, I moved on from my H08 for a Santos as well (ADLC bezel/grey dial). While they are both somewhat the same shape and size, they are not really direct substitutes for each other in my opinion. The H08 is a pure sports watch whereas the Santos is more of an all rounder IMO. I didn’t so much sell the H08 to replace its purpose in my collection as much as I just decided I needed/wanted the Santos more and couldn’t afford to keep both.

In the end I’m extremely happy with my Santos in a way that the H08 never quite did it for me.
