LoL at people saying easy mistake... Really. White vs silver dial.
At the end of the day it's just a watch. However, as a sale representative to misinform a client on simple dial color. Com'on.

At least some people here can understand.

I totally understand where you’re coming from, OP.

I’d be disappointed too. IMO, by their comments, they knew what they did, it wasn’t a mistake. They were just hoping you would take it. I could be wrong. With the current state of affairs, I assume the worst in ADs.

I wouldn’t say you passed on it. It wasn’t what you asked for in the first place. At least you know what you want and have the discipline to wait and not bite because it’s there.

Hopefully they’ll come through for you.

I am very surprised this happened… A Rolex AD should know the damm difference! And to say “it looks like the white” (or whatever). Is a copout IMHO. Is it the end of the world? Of course not, but I too, would be disappointed I was going to buy my desired watch at MSRP from an AD only to find they were either not being honest, or being incompetent.

Imagine if it was delivered, would the AD take it back, no questions asked, full refund? I disagree that this is a simple mistake. Details matter, especially when parting with 10k. That and white is definitely better. ;)

There is a huge difference between Rolex white and silver dials otherwise why would they make both?

A Rolex AD SA who can’t tell the difference should be taken aside and ‘product knowledged’.

Yeah I agree, they should be fired and banned from ever working retail.

If these people think it’s a mistake they are idiots…..they knew it wasn’t the watch he wanted…..they tried to sell it(or rather make him buy it anyways)…….same with the guy on the PN Daytona and many others……they know what they are doing

Thank goodness your Dad made the call to you first. Hang in there and hopefully the AD will get the correct watch for you.

Why should we accept mediocrity. If you’re paid to sell Rolex, and can’t differentiate between dials. Clearly there is a level of incompetence there, either with the SA or his/her in house training.

In my world mistakes costs lives. In this case not a big deal.

Lo and behold, I get a call a week and half later that they have what I want - white stick / white dial on jubilee with fluted bezel. I was happily surprised that they would call me so quickly, especially without ant real relationship with them.

The pictures she sends me of the watch are from the online catalog, and the dial looked a bit off, so I tried to confirm again - this is the white dial with white sticks, correct? A resounding "correct".

I have my parents go to the AD for pickup (I live out of state), and my Dad says it's nice, would I like to see a picture? Sure - at this point, I fully trust that the AD knows what they're doing. Well, I'm glad he said that because once I saw the actual picture of the watch, my heart sank. It was the silver dial with white batons.

I called the AD out on it, and they said "well, it looks very similar to the white dial". #1, no it does not. #2, how could this large AD make such a mistake when I asked more than once if this was the white dialed version?

I passed on it, and we'll see if they can actually come through or if I've slipped through the cracks and missed out on the only watch that they'll offer me - a watch that I didn't want.

Details matter, especially in the watch world!

The silver is very nice, but if it’s not what you want, then good pass.

Thanks...I was in the military too.

Let's try and be realistic about what we're comparing on a watch forum.

You know, I kind of agree with this. My opinion is that the AD was thinking: “He’ll take it anyway” and just kept telling him what he wanted to hear. Just MHO.

I'm 75% sure that this was an honest mistake. White and silver are completely different if you are a member of a watch forum. I don't like silver (or gold) colored dials. But to a rep, silver may be the lightest color they believe the model has and think that its referred to as white. Ignorance cannot be underestimated.

Duuuuuuuuuhhhhh Maybe you should re-read my post… And try to understand this time. My point was it was NOT an honest mistake, they were very aware the watch was not the model he wanted, but thought he would buy it anyway.

I just texted her yesterday to keep up the relationship, and she seemed really apologetic (especially about my parents having to come visit) and told me that she'd still be on the lookout for it.

Whether that's just lip service or not...time will tell.

Also, I think it's funny that you say I "blew it" - what a market we're in, where the customer is wrong for saying no to the piece that they didn't want.

95% of retail company’s are desperate for business/ money & the customer is always right & you should get what you ordered, but unfortunately Rolex is in the 5% with the likes of Hermes , l Vuitton , Patek we’re there such demand it’s case of being pragmatic & excepting you have to compromise . Unfortunately I don’t think your be getting a call back from the A/D you turn down . Move on to another is my advice…

Glad to see you have realized my posts are generally thoughtful and caring. Although sometimes people find it easier to shoot the messenger than absorb and appreciate the message. I try hard on substance, but the delivery is sometimes misinterpreted.

Like the AD clerk , she tried hard , then her intentions were misconstrued.
No conspiracy there, just human error.
