Why Exp-II and no other!!
Hi guys,
This morning I was browsing through my A4 Rolex catalogue and trying to convince myself with suitable arguments as to why I should ONLY buy a BLACK EXP-II and no other Rolex. Here are some of my own convincing reasons: 1. I just love the independently movable small hand feature. Extremely convenient. 2. Love the contrast of the red 24-hour hand against the black dial. 3. Love the FIXED bezel 'cause I never use 'em anyway. The brushed finish looks superb and contrasts well with the black of the dial. 4. Great practical watch for travel, swimming and just about anything. 5. Perfect size of actually 39 mm, but the 1 mm loss doesn't really worry me. 6. Perfect weight balance with the bracelet - all up 126 grams....not too heavy and not too light. 7. I love its great looks and overall get up. Am I convinced? What do YOU think? Am I nuts? What do YOU think?

But I have to agree with you, Johnny...the contrast of the fixed brushed steel bezel goes better with the black dial than the black bezel of the GMT-II. It's all about contrast and I simply love that word and what it does for me!!

Also, all you need is a broken spring or some grit/sand under that rotating bezel to bring it to a screeching halt (I know a few guys with subs with bezels that don't work). Take out that 'complication' and problem solved. As well, because of the semi-sloping bezel, it gives the watch a dressier look, so it's more practical in that it can do double duty as a tool watch AND a dress watch. |

Come off it! “Most practically functional Rolex”. Most of you never ever ventured outside your office cubicle and went to the Piccardian "depths" of the bathtub at most! Frans.

Dont know why but when I had a Explorer 11 for a very short time
the bezel was like a scratch magnet for me.

I don't use it for a third time zone (I still haven't gotten that hang of that one), but I do use it for quick timing jobs, as when you need to time how much is left in the parking meter before the parking police get you for being one minute over the limit. Or timing the steaks on the grill to know when to flip them. Can't do that with an EXP now, can you? Hey, we can debate this one till the cows come home and won't convince each other. But isn't it great that Rolex makes both the GMT AND the EXP so we can both enjoy our watches.

I think the Explorer II is a great looking watch but the white dial, so nice, frowns at me. I haven't tried the black dial. After the GMT II I have to say a bezel should rotate. I DO use the GMT function and have grown accustom to it and miss that feature on my other watches. Just my 2 cents. =) maverick
