Agree.

Or tell them it is your policy to only pay in full, if you receive the watch and all related items, booklets, etc. that should come with it.

In some places, policies like this are the only reason you can find a watch for MSRP at all.
It is your property to do with it what you wish after the AD gets payment! Flip it, wear it, give it away or run it over with a truck.

Great for the value of your watch if you already own one, but a royal pain if you don't. And it's a bit worrisome that artificial market bubbles have a way of popping awkwardly. I don't see Rolexes going the way of Beanie Babies or sports cards, but at some point there's going to be a correction unless Rolex really intends to never use its full manufacturing capabilities again. (Not that this really matters to folks who buy a watch and keep it, but it'll be disappointing nonetheless.)
Come on, if this were true there would be no waiting lists 50 deep in most cities for the new Basels which have no supply issues yet. Rolex have announced officially that they were caught out last year by surging global demand and similarly the year before in the UK by Brexit, and Rolex are many things but they are not liars, they usually just say nothing. The issue now is they are tightly controlling supply/allocation to weed out the flippers and this may look like a supply cut but it is reactive, not formative.

It kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. They said they would give me a small plastic case to put my watch in. When I buy something I’m used to getting the whole product. It’s like buying a car but it doesn’t come with tires. Should I go to another ad or is this the norm?

Is that the lee Micheal’s ad? I buy at the lee Micheal’s ad in la cantera. Good people, no dumb policy’s... they just take off stickers

OP,
Just buy the watch and get the box later. If a legit AD, then what is the concern? Buy the watch, enjoy it, and 6 months later get the box and put it in your closet to never be touched again.

In the market for my first Rolex and is this normal

We do have a choice to play their game or policy. Buy it or walk away. After all it’s only a watch.

More or less normal. I just bought a new Rolex from AD and they insisted on removing all stickers. I don't have a problem and understand the goal.....but of course prefer the good ol days.

If you are local and intend to keep it then get it. If you're a serial flipper or have watch ADD, that's the only reason to keep looking.

Personally have no issues with that policy especially based on how much outcry these threads result in. The less same month NIB units we see in the for sale section and grey inventory above MSRP, the better.

You pay for the whole thing, you get the whole thing.
Tell them if they want to keep the warranty card and box, you will pay 50% and when they give you the box and warranty card you will pay the other 50%

I don't believe this is a matter for negotiation. It is either their way or the highway. There are plenty of people who will happily take the watch and get the other stuff later.

When I recently purchased my Hulk, I was aware of the games AD's are playing these days. My AD didn't demand on keeping the warranty card, but they did insist that I provide them with a state issued ID and that the name on my ID had to be recorded on the warranty card. I told them that was a non issue because I am not a flipper, but keeping the card would have definitely been an issue with me.

Say “You may hold my warranty card for 6 months as long as I can hold a copy of the store owners drivers licenses for 6 months so I can contact him if the store goes out of business in that amount of time.”

I’d hazard a guess it may well be policy in some stores there, sure is here!

1. rolex is in essence a non-profit, donating most of their profits away. they are creating a fake market, but everything today is manipulated and fake so not surprising. (look at the SNB buying up stocks.)
2. an AD holding back anything to do w/ the retail product is actually illegal; the msrp INCLUDES the ENTIRE product, which in this case is the box, cards, etc.
3. chumps buying from deranged AD's and gray dealers here are what's allowing for all this nonsense.
