Trade my SD for IWC or Chopard?

I have an A serial SD incoming this week and a good friend of mine who I have done may watch deals with is interested in it.

For trade he has offered the following 2 watches:

-----------------------------------------------------------------

IWC Ingenieur Titanium

This timepiece is powered by mechanical chronograph movement with automatic winding, IWC caliber 80110 28 jewels, inner inlay composed of iron to prevent excessive anti-magnetism, power reserve is approximately 40 hours.

Brushed light-weight titanium case, diameter of the case is 42.5 mm (excluding crown, pushers and lugs), height is 14.5 mm, flat anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

Black dial with applied silvered Arabic numerals and rectangular hour markers filled with white paint, white and red printed minute track, Lance-shaped polished steel hands with luminous insets, red sweeping seconds hand, Date window at 3:00 o'clock position. Screw-in crown. Screw-on case back with embossed emblem signifying partnership between Mercedes AMG and IWC, Water-resistant up to 120 m / 12 atm. Brushed with very soft finish titanium bracelet with folding buckle with safety devise.

or

Chopard Pro One

• Chopard Caliber L.U.C. 4.96, 31 Jewels
The L.U.C 4.96 contains thirty-one jewels, a Glucydur balance, two stacked and serially operating spring barrels with the ability to reserve 65-hours of power. The best part, I believe, is their proprietary micro-rotor feverishly spinning in solid 18K Gold. Beveled bridges, côtes de Genève, polished steel parts and screw heads, and finally the awarding of the coveted C.O.S.C certificate.

• Power Reserve Approximately 65-70 Hourse
• Scratch Resistant Sapphire Crystal
• Brushed and Polished Stainless Steel Case and Rubber OEM Bracelet
• 300 Meters / 1000 Feet Water Resistant
• 43mm = 1 5/8" Case
• 13.5mm Thick

Pro One dial has thick Guilloche waves that cover the inner circle of the Satin-Ebony palette, while an outwardly-expanding, circular-Guilloche track flows under the raised and applied white-Gold markers.

These markers are formed in Quadrilateral Polygon, and are stuffed with Super Luminova. The white-Gold hands mirror the shape of the markers, and are again ladled with ample amount of Super Luminova.

The slender sweep-second hand is tipped with the same shaped Polygon, and again filled with Super Luminova. Finally, a conceited tail is seen at the opposite side of this flowing hand, where the initials of the founding father can be seen…L.U.C.

• Black Dial
• Self Winding Automatic Chronometer Movement

----------------------------------------------------------

So you see my predicament, both beautiful watches but so is that SD right? What opinions do you have regarding the companies, movements, dials, cases and bands for each? What would you guys do in my situation?

Thanx for any and all opinions!

From those 2, the Chopard has more appeal, but I wouldn't trade an SD for either of those.

Just hang on to it, Ren.

My preference, of course, would be the SD.

However, comparing the trade items, the person with the two watches would have the upper end (more value on hand).

Interesting decision, let us know what you do...

I foresee numerous responses from our fellow TRF members an overhelming vote to keep the SD. The SD has a big cult following amongst us TRFers!

If it were me, I would keep the SD and save money or sell another watch, to finance the IWC Ingenieur!

IMHO, both watches you're considering are equal to an SD, in terms of function and quality.

Cheers.

Thanx my friends,

The SD has always been my all time fave Rolex (followed closely by the blue or black TT Sub) but I am really interested in one of these as well... we have'nt worked out the actual trade amounts yet either so that will be a big deciding factor of course!

Keep those opinions coming guys!

I say keep the SD.
You are coming out a little bit ahead with the Chopard BUT
the IWC is a bad trade.

The SD is such a classic watch and they are built like tanks. I would find it difficult to give up the SD. Good luck on your decision.

Neither one of those choices do anything for me, the SD would be my choice. But ultimately its on your wrist, good luck!

Don't trade for either of them. Why would you trade the iconic dive watch for the Chopard that's clearly not.I do think the Chopard loks good but the case reminds me a lot of the current Fortis B-42 Marinemaster all though with added crown guards.
The IWC Ingenieur is an interesting watch and some(if not all I'm not an IWC expert or any other brand expert for that mather) feature an IWC in house movement. The stainless IWC Ingenieur would be a nice watch to own but I wouldn't sell a Seadweller for it. I wouldn't go for titanium one as it is a scratch magnet.

Personally I'd keep the SD.

If I wanted either of the watches you mention it would be the IWC, I think they are a nice, modern design, though I am not fond of titanium and think the chrono's in that line look better, esp the AMG. I also think that their design is very timeless, and will look good in 10 years.

I would not get the Chopard.... not a big fan, I'd rather go IWC or Patek for a higher end movement. I also do not care for the looks of the watch and think it will be very dated in a few years.

Either one of these watches I would expect to get for a close to even trade for a high condition SD with box and papers; and even so I'd expect to loose money when I re-sell as I do not think either will hold value as well as the SD

If you're concerned about watches holding their value, then keep the SD because I'm sure the potential resale of the IWC and Chopard are not as good as Rolex.

IMO, I would keep the SD. I'm not being a fan boy I just don't love the look of the other two watches. that's not to say they aren't great watches though.

I would buy a Chopard or IWC first hoping one day to buy a Rolex. I would NOT trade my Rolex for either one.

The IWC is a big NO NO looks like a Swatch. The Chopard looks better.

Personally, I like some of teh IWC watches.

Given the choice of models you have posted, I would hold on to the SD !

If he was offering an IWC pilot watch 3717, spitfire big pilot etc, then I would seriously consider it.
