Just bought a 5146 - no clasp!

Hi

I got carried away at a viewing today and ended up buying a 5146 annual calendar from Watch&passion (i can't post links but a google search will find it).

I am delighted with the watch, but i can't help noticing it didn't come with

1. A deployment clasp in gold with emblem
2. the two things that slide into the watch cushion (tag and tool?)

is this a deal breaker, and should i return it?
I really want the clasp, as i think it makes the watch look special from underneath, maybe i can buy it separately?

what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

is it on a tang? If so is it a patek one? Im assuming you were able to strap it to your wrist in some fashion.

Depending on the deal, you can replace it but its not cheap so i would factor a replacement into the price you paid for the watch to determine what steps to take.

Personally deployants tend to be uncomfortable a lot of the time for me. I tend to prefer tang. Ive never tried the 5146 deployant, but you might want to try one on first to see if you want one.

Yes its on a tang. With all the gold markings on it. (and the strap has D39 on the tip).

What i am keen to know is 'should it have come with a deployant originally or was it an option at purchase?
And did i get a good deal at £20k purchase price.

I believe 5146 comes with a deployant from PP. Older models with the chevron buckle and the newer with calatrava. What does the Cert say of the movement, 324 or 315? A WG calatrava buckle deployant can be ordered for around 2500 usd I think...

I'd be asking about the service history...

It’s the 324 movement and the watch is dated Dec 10, 2014.
So not too old.

I wonder how the clasp got changed!

Doesn't the "D" designation on the strap suggest it had a deployant? When I added a deployant to my Calatrava I had to switch from a "B" strap to a "D" strap.

Ummm yeah I was unsure upon walking in to greys.
Any suggestions on better pre owned dealers?

I’ve found a white gold deployant clasp for £2,000 online and new.
I suppose if I buy that then the watch is 22k all in. So still £3k less than the nearest other 5146.

Feels a bit Frankenstein’ish to add bits on.
But it’s a 3.5 year old watch with all box an papers for 22k for a war h that’s RRPing at £31,500 right now.

So. Stick or twist :)

First of all welcome to the forum & congratulations on your new 5146......!!!

I seen 5146 with 3 different type of clasp....

1. Patek Philippe tang & buckle clasp
2. Patek Philippe chevron buckle deployant clasp
3. Patek Philippe Calatrava deployant clasp

Originally it should come with a Patek Philippe chevron buckle deployant clasp...

Some people change to Patek Philippe tang & buckle clasp because they are more comfortable, with the option of purchase and keep the Patek Philippe chevron buckle deployant clasp...

Regarding about if it should come with a Patek Philippe Calatrava Deployant clasp.... It was an option at the time of purchase with exchange of the Patek Philippe chevron buckle deployant clasp when buy new form the AD... Some AD already come with Patek Philippe Calatrava deployant clasp to make the sale of the watch look attractive with no extra charge.....

The watch price range is about 25,000 to 32,000 dollars......

I seen a 25,000 dollars 5146 and trust me you wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole...

For a 5146 condition is excellent to mint and came complete sets with box, paper and Patek Philippe Calatrava deployant clasp is around 30,000 to 32,000 dollars .....

Did you get a good deal for 20,000 British pounds which came out to be $27,600 dollars.....

I would say it a decent deal if the watch condition is excellent to mint and came complete sets with box, paper and without the Patek Philippe Calatrava deployant clasp .....

I say keep it if you happy with the condition of the watch.....

Best Regards,
Tony

W/o the intention to crash your party but rrp is very soft at these reference ,10%imho even before breakfast then you have a brand new piece with proven history and service records ,now you need a deployant a service within two years and worry what other things happened with the watch prior so you may saved 3-4k extra at most .With PP the AD is a better way.

Thanks for all your help. What an amazing forum.
I think I’ll keep it, I am a little concerned that the watch will just fall off and get lost as my Daytona and Planet ocean has gotten me used to a clasp.

But I’ll run with it for a week and make a call on buying a deployant or not.

Any ideas on where to pick one up?

To be fair to watch&passion and also greys antiques. I emailed them today and they are going to order me a calatrava clasp free of charge.

I’ll update once I pickup :)

That's very generous, are you swapping them for the buckle?

I would personally not be happy with the fact that the deployment was removed. However if they have agreed to order you a brand new replacement then that’s fair enough.

Be careful when comparing the rrp to the price that you paid. A 5146G is worth around the £18-20k price and that’s where I’ve seen them selling. The price they are for sale for and wheee they actually clear can be quite different.
