Hoping for guidance sourcing tritium hands and a long 5 insert for my 5513
Hello,
I recently purchased a 1969 5513 with a meters first dial which the serial number starts with 201xxxx. It has newer luminova service hands and a service insert. So, I would like to find the correct hands and insert. With regard to the hands, I see sets advertised for sale that say they are from the 70's or 80's. My question is, are there different versions of hands for different years of the 5513, or are they the same from like 1969 through the 1980's? Also, I've been told that the correct insert is a MK2 long 5. Are there different variations of the long 5 insert or is there only one type? The insert especially seems like it will be expensive, so I don't want to make a mistake and buy one that isn't quite right. Any insight will be greatly appreciated! Also, I would also appreciate any tips on resizing photos to post them. I have a photo compress app, but it only shows what percentage to reduce the size and quality, so I always end up having to try like three times, as always like one dimension is too large... Thanks for your help! |

Is your dial zinc sulfide? Check under UV.
To post good photos, host them elsewhere and insert BBCode links.

Hi Dan,
I wasn't aware of zinc Sulfide dials. When looking at it under UV, what is the difference to look for between sulfide and regular tritium? Thanks! |

The zinc sulfide phosphor will still respond to UV. The later 1970s phosphor will be dead.
Two 5513s under UV. 1966 on left, 1977 on right.

Thanks Dan! I tried it on mine and it looks like only the luminova hands light up.

That's probably good. It will be easier to find the standard tritium hands than the zinc sulfide.
