Omega Speedmaster CK2998 Limited Edition good buy?

I saw a Speedmaster CK2998 2018 Limited Edition here in Austria and wondering if this is a good buy. The watch is limited to 2998 pieces, could you get this at a discount in the US? And do you think this watch will appreciate in value?

This is the watch with Hodinkee's review: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/wi...ition-for-2018

Good question. This one seems to have been forgotten a little amongst the Ultraman and now Hodinkee versions. If you ask me they shouldn’t have let the Ultraman beat it to most markets (its very rare in US still). I like mine. My sense says it won’t sell for a large premium but maybe a little. The watch is very handsome.

A Panda speedy is as good as money in the bank - much talk of being sold out already but I would be fairly confident in saying there are still a few around

Without the lume on the bezel, it’s a bit “lacking” compared to the blue CK2998.

I almost bought the blue ck when it first came out. Resale values have stayed consistent but not selling for premium money. You might take a small hit on resale if you decide it’s not for you.

i got it for less than US retail. it was 5400 euros before the tax refund. so with the refund should be 4500 euros. pretty good deal especially now the euro is pretty low.

I think its the 1171 from omega.

I too am surprised this years CK hasn't got much more attention. It is a classic speedmaster design on a vintage case (as its a CK), with a look that is departed enough from the original design thats just enough to make this unique without going too far.

It retains most of the classic features with a very attractive, useful and very usable panda dial.

The dial is slightly off-white and textured, classic black and white theme throughout and the addition of the pulsometer which is very rare and not usually specs-ed as a insert (bezel) option (way back in the 60s/70s) makes a return in ceramic.

I guess i see it differently? All the watches i buy are usually the ones nobody else picks. Wether that be different colour combos, dial/bezel or otherwise. I rarely pick the status quo, the traditional all black or silver for example.

Great watch, love mine! But omega should have been much quicker on the uptake to getting them into the market. A very low key launch indeed. 2 weeks on instagram, with the occasional pic slotted in every 4 days.

it was a sleeper hit.
Love mine as well.
Given the uniqueness of color scheme, pulsations bezel, and overall "black sheep" of the CK2998/FOIS line up, should age well

I think the bracelet above might be the 1125 with 617 end links

I think the 560s require a shorter screw and a more snug fit than 617s. My technician friend Amanda at the OB did a great job in fitting them for me.

Can you post a picture of the 1125/617? I have a FOIS with a Speedy Racing and currently thinking about getting a more vintage looking bracelet.

Speedy all day over the Daytona that lacks any meaningful history other than celebrity association from days gone by.

It is a good buy if you love the watch/look.

I highly doubt it is a good "investment". I don't see a lot of these limited this or that Omegas gaining any value anytime soon. It feels like there is a new one every week...

Had the original blue version but disliked the blue tone of the dail; wish the new black panda ck2998 pulse meter had the illuminated bezel

Also, on the new one - I love a good pulsation dial as much as the next guy, but putting it on a chronograph with a racing dial just seems misplaced to me.

a pulsation dial speedmaster--particularly with the red chronograph hand and the racing strap--just feels off to me. that said, i have the blue dial CK2998 from a couple of years ago and love it (though i'm not going to lie, i find the now 3 separate limited edition speedmaster references (CK2998 blue, CK2998 black, hodinkee) using this exact same 39.7mm case (which initially felt new and interesting with the FOIS) to be a little annoying).

If you like the watch before, but later find it annoying because another similar watch of the same size and style was issued, then perhaps you love a watch because you want it to be unique. And I can perfectly understand that feeling. We almost always like something unique and different.

Now for a Speedy in a pulsometer and racing strap considered by some to be a bit off, I can also perfectly understand that feeling. But there’s nothing wrong with it. In fact, now that I think about it, the pulsometer makes more sense now as something that’s more useful as one ages. I joked upon perhaps one needs to check its pulse after an exciting and heart wrenching racing drive. There you go, Omega, that you can use for your marketing. Lol!

For me, this one is almost perfect. I just wish they have the luminosity on the Ceramic bezel for the home run, but then the red Chrono hands will have that lollipop thing to track Chrono in the dark. And that would ruin the entirety of the watch. I guess no perfect watch indeed. Just better. And this is a better CK2998 IMHO.

I find the Panda CK2298 a really beautiful Speedy variant. I understand the mixed feelings of the Pulsometer bezel but love the fact that it is something different.

It's the only variant with the pulsations all the rest have tachometers

Prices are falling as several iterations have made the CK’s less valuable plus another variant coming. Wait at least another year when these are $3500-$4000.

I wished the CK2998 blue panda sub-dials would be in black, when the first CK2998 LE announced in 2016. And the Omega made it happened in 2018, but with a different bezel.
I went for the blue one at the end, for it seems slightly different from others and more suitable to my smaller wrist.

IMO, Speedy are more for enjoyment than holding for price appreciation (Yes, we all know about the Snoopy, but that's just exceptional).
