Any reason to avoid the "hesalite sandwich"

I have been on the hunt for a speedmaster. I have tried both current references, the sapphire sandwich and the hesalite and it was clear to me that the hesalite just has much more character. While doing my homework on previous references I came across two references 3572.50 and 3592.50 which in theory at least combine the best of both worlds. A hesalite crystal and a sapphire caseback. Yet they do not seem to be popular based on the number of threads and pictures I was able to find on forums and instagram.

Since I will probably not see those in flesh until I buy one of them from a trusted seller, is there a reason to avoid those references?

Interesting question - one question i would have is whether the case thickness is different between the two.

Also, if you have any plans to go into space, perhaps to the moon, I don’t think this version is “certified”.

Just added a new hesalite Speedy a year ago. Would have loved the exhibition caseback. I think if you don’t mind buying a used one, I’d go for it. The movement on a new hesalite isn’t decorated the same as a sapphire one, so you may be disappointed by trying to change the caseback out.

3572 and 3592 are desirable. I think there are fewer of them out there in the wild simply because they were in production at times when sales volumes were low.

One other neat thing, I think, about those references is the possibility they came on bracelet reference 1498 or 1499, which looked similar to the bracelet Omega provides on the Speedmaster Pro today, but which tapered to a thinner width at the clasp than today's bracelet does. Some folks prefer that look.

As for technical differences, the one that stands to reason is resistance to magnetic fields. The Speedmaster Pro uses a Faraday Cage (soft iron movement ring and dust cover) to improve resistance to magnetic fields, and I imagine a display case-back means there is a reduction in this resistance.

Both 3572 and 3592 great choices. If you want tritium dial look for a 3592 or a transitional 3572. My 3592 numbered edition says hi!
