Servicing a 1951 Prince

First post. Long time Rolex owner.

I have a 1951 gold Rolex Prince that I've owned for around 30 years, but haven't worn much for the last 15 or so as I find it's a bit small on my wrist.

Anyway, I decided to show it some love and took it to a reputable jewelers in Manchester to get it serviced.

They've now contacted me and told me that it needs a part that they can't get due to it's age. It seems that the hands are now out of sync. I can't be sure that it was working when I took it in, but certainly wasn't aware that there was anything wrong with it.

I'm now stuck with a watch that doesn't work and I can't really prove that it was okay when I handed it over. To make it worse, it seems that I won't be able to get fixed as nobody can get parts.

The watch has a lot of sentimental value and I'd really like to get it fixed. Does anybody know anywhere that may be able to help ?

It should not be that difficult to service ( or even make specific parts)
I contacted James Dowlng who gave mine to his watch person

Runs like a chronometer now

Contact him via his website

PS DO you have any pics? is offline   Reply With Quote

Thanks Julian, much appreciated.

I've been on his web page and dropped him a line. I don't know if it's sign, but I've just spent the day at the funeral of a friend and neighbour called Dowling.

I don't have any photos to hand, and the watch is still in the jewellers, but I'll see if I can dig anything out.
