AP 15400 price increase

Quite surprised to see how much AP 15400 preowned trading today. Why the price surges? Do you think it is affected by PP 5711's craze?

Hopefully it will continue to increase though, make me relieved I bought it for good price last December.

Yes, it's a global wave of selective buying and 15400s are caught in it too.

Ahh Turdberg. The real question is, will they start making you buy jewelry to buy the 15400 also?

I recently tried to buy from them a used 15400. I had talked them down quite a bit on price. When I still didn’t like the price, I called a bunch of AD’s, and ended up finding a new one for less money they were going to charge for used. Of course the new one also comes with a five year warranty.

I think the craziness around SS Rolex and Patek has caused increased demand in AP which in turn has driven its price up. In my opinion, the regular 15400 can't stay as hot as it is right now since it's AP's bread and butter piece.

Since the 15202 correlates to the 5711/5712 more than any Rolex, it's safe to assume that as long as supply is low, prices will continue to trend up.

That's my speculation anyways

Well the perception persists that gold is old (probably too many senior folk wearing gold and 2-tones - even gold plated ones), and the current preoccupation with looking young..SS is going to remain popular. Who knows maybe those who will be "old" in 20-30 years time may also shun gold?? By then who knows SS may be "old" and gold for the young..haha. fashion does come full circle yah :-)

Are you saying that buying from them is bad experience? Can you elaborate? Planning to buy a watch from them when I'm going to Hongkong.

Lol, sorry let me explain. There was another thread about an AD, Govberg, who allegedly promised someone a Patek 5522 and then required them to buy some 30k of jewelry in order to buy the watch. It came out in the thread that this same AD owns Watchbox and was selling some questionable, still double sealed Pateks, as “preowned” for well above MSRP. I was just making a joke and referencing that thread.

Have never purchased from them so no experience to share from that perspective.

I think looking rich still beats looking young esp for men, so gold will always have a market.

AP is catching on to slow the distro of the 15400, it’s not 5711 level, which about 18 month waiting list

Excluding the blue dial. Are discounts for 15400 from an AD still a thing?

I read in the past 10-20% off RRP

Not anymore. 5-6 years ago they could easily be found NIB for under $11k. Times are different now.

Even for black or white dial? Aren't these still easy to get from an AD?

In 2016 I was offered a discount on any dial colour but blue. My guess is now that wouldn’t happen.

I haven't heard or seen SS ROs or ROCs in ADs. At the boutique its a few weeks wait for the black or white but its full retail. Blue dial needs purchase history and is a couple month wait. Grey market asking is usually around $1k over retail. If you can find one at discount then grab it! With AP cutting ADs to go to an all boutique market they wont have them for long.

6 months ago I was offered a brand new 15400 at 15k. Man has time passed quickly

Across all dials there is either a slight wait to a long wait.

Even silver/white and black may take anywhere from a couple weeks to a few months depending on the city you are in. Most ADs may not have one in stock, even some boutiques.

There is strictly no discounts for many if not all places right now.

I recently visited the Beverly Hills boutique and NYC boutique in midtown over the past month. Spent a bit of time chatting with a sales person at each location (they knew I wasn't some clueless walk-in). Neither store had a 15400 in SS for me to try - BH had the 15450 silver dial available in the display case. BH also let me "look" at a black 15400 that was awaiting customer pick-up, but I was not allowed to try on the watch (not upset about this; actually glad that they do this with watches that are spoken for by customers who've already paid).

As a first-time customer I was told essentially the same thing from both locations. Black/silver/grey dials are available in 1-3 months and a deposit (believe it was 25%) was required. Both also told me they could not put my name down for a blue dial model, regardless of deposit size I offered, as I was a first-time customer.

I really can't see myself getting anything besides the blue dial, so I didn't even get into the topic of potential discounts on the other dial colors. However, both locations were very upfront with me about being willing to "ship out of state" without me even asking about it.

Pricing on the 15300 (pre-owned) is even stronger, especially blue face. I saw one recently for over $25K and it was gone quite quickly.
