I've owned the DSSD twice but ended up selling it twice.
One particular watch that I have suffers from leak from the escapement valve. Was having a shower and suddenly the watch fogged up. I fixed it a few days later but the movement has already started to rust. While I admit that I should've fixed it sooner, but I'm severely disappointed that a watch that is meant for deep sea diving can't even manage a shower. As it was after the warranty period, I couldn't get Rolex to fix it for free. But I still feel sore that the quality of the watch is as such. Ended up selling it at a great mark down due to water damaged movement. |

The DSSD black is classic and a terrific piece. For me, the D blue was just knock out beautiful especially when I finally got the chance to put it on the wrist.

I prefer the black dial as I don't like the Green Text
on the JC... IF the JC had the text DEEPSEA in Blue, Red or White it would be another story... |

As others have intimated, i used to think it was too "gimicky". Then i saw it in real life As this thread is about the black. I love my MK II 116660 black more and more every day. |

had the original black DSSD for almost 10 years and much preferred the black the entire time I owned it. When the updated case/bracelet and movement came out I decided to give the D-Blue a try this time around and slightly prefer the D-Blue now. It looks better in person and gives a subtle uniqueness to the all black diver that Rolex if famous for.
I do like the 3 line then 4 line text with DEEPSEA on top like on the black model vs the 2 line and 5 line of the D-Blue. Looks like a paragraph on the bottom of the dial. |

The black dial DSSD is one of my favorite Rolexes, it has that classic Rolex diver/tool watch look. The Deep Blue is beautiful, I just prefer the classic Rolex look.

As far as the black DSSD goes, what are the differences in 116660 and 126660? I see both and am unable to tell any difference besides the movement. Any other differences? Again, black only.
Thanks |

they did some small refinements to the 126660. Slimmed the lugs, wider bracelet and slightly taller.

IMO I don’t like the engraving of this watch, it makes it too much technical for my taste. I prefer the SD 43.
Advise: if you really like the watch, don’t pay attention to the opinion others have, it’s your wrist and you wear what it really makes you comfortable. |

I prefer the black and bought it and LOVE it. The Blue is too "Showy" not enamoured with the green text and the blue to black transition.

I was hunting for the dblue 126660 for a couple of months. Tried to go to all AD in melbourne but got the same story. From it’s rare, we don’t know if we will receive any to we receive random supply from rolex. Tried searching in perth AD but got the same story too. Last week, i discovered that european watch gallery in melbourne had a black dial 126660 DSSD, I immediately jumped and was at the store the next day. I was very happy with the black dial. Its not a dblue but its equally pretty. So happy, i got a sub-c for the wife the same day, so we now sport a his and her combo. Such a beutiful watch..

Congrats to both of you. It's not taller. They have been measured and are the exact same height. This misinformation was erroneously reported by one YouTuber and some folks blindly ran with it. |

I couldn’t tell any difference in person either. They both fit about the same for me. One thing I did notice is that I had to let the glidelock out a little, compared to my 116660.(all links and dive ext on) |

It's all down to personal preference. I'm not a fan of the blue dial personally, it's the black dial all the way for me.

From my research the DSSD black is the sleeper . Surprisingly it can be found right at msrp at grays and these Are appearing more often at the AD.
I’m actually kicking around trading my SD43 for one |

Not in theUK for sure but it is more available than the JC. Premium runs around £500 - £1,000 so not too scalpy!
I have both and wear the black more frequently, it wears really well on my 7.5inch wrist, I think people see the height of this piece and general heft and think they couldn't wear it as a daily, you can because the lug to lug is very reasonable, little more than a Sub C and this watch has so much more personality than a cooking Sub |

I've seen the black on people's wrists and mistakenly commented "nice Sub" only to be corrected it was the DeepSea. With that said, the black has a very strong and serious tool look to it.
The gradient of the blue dial is immensely attractive in person; as soon as I saw it I had to have it. I think those that find its gimmicky have either not seen in the flesh how it changes in the light, appearing black in many instances. The photos on the forums/IG, and even under the bright lights of an AD's display case, tend to show the watch in full light, which exaggerates the blue pop quite a bit. Both are great pinnacles of dive watches, you can't go wrong. I don't quite understand the hatred towards Cameron's involvement though. It doesn't have his name plastered along the case or dial, its simply a commemoration of his solo dive (hardly "just a passenger"). Rolex/watch fans refer to it as the James Cameron as an easy way of signifying this configuration, but that's it. No one hates on the BLNR because they prefer Marvel to DC, so to hate on the blue dial because of James is misplaced IMO. |

I really believe much of the attraction of the JC is the fact that its rarer , same as the green hulks.
