Red on SD43 going away

My AD just told me the red letters will be white in a few years and to buy the red one now if I can.

Well, I for one and am going to agree with part of that statement.

The "you should buy one now if you can" part.

The rest of it...uh, not so much.

What he meant to say was the color red was being banned...for political reasons. Not a Rolex decision. So, go buy every red watch you can.

Actually, that's probably right. In "a few years" (maybe five or ten), the SD43 will probably be replaced by a future model, and the text probably will be white. But your AD is guessing. There is no way he would have accurate information about what Rolex will do in a few years. So there's no point to this thread.

I never trust the people, who's primary responsibility and means of earning are to separate as much money from me, as quickest as possible.

If you believe him, try to buy one now (if you have one in stock). The worst thing that could happen is that you end up with an awesome watch. :)

The vast majority of SDs throughout their history were white.

First Sea-Dweller Single Red in 1967 (prototype) followed by second Sea-Dweller Double Red in 1968 (another prototype). After that the Sea-Dweller is commercially launched in 1970 with white lettering and stays white until the SD4K (2014) discontinued in 2017, with the exception of the green lettering D-Blue (also launched in 2014).

If history is to repeat itself, we'll see the end of the Red SD43 in 2020.

That's because the red writing is not indicative of an anniversary release. It's just standard on those models.

Exactly what? This just means your AD is saying what anybody paying attention can already figure out. And who knows if he did that research, or just pulled his prediction out of his backside? Besides which, who's to say Rolex will adhere to the initial three-year run of the red SD? The 50th Anniversary Sub LV ran for seven years.

That's because there is no red lettering in the 50th Anniversary Sub LV. Red wouldn't have lasted more than 3 years :-).
