Rolex and Abu Garcia
If anyone here is a hard core freshwater fisherman they might get the coincidence.I just got myself an Abu Garcia C-4 5601C4 bait casting reel. Iv'e been freshwater bass fishing for over 20yrs,and have many different brands of reels. I would safely say Abu Garcia is the Rolex of reels, it's so smooth and awesomly (if that's a word) engineered. Smooth, and overbuilt. Just my 2 cents.

I have Abu's in my saltwater collection. 6500's and 7000's mostly. I like them a lot. Smooth drags and hold up well to heavy salt water abuse. I've had them for years.

I cried when my Abu Garcia salt water reel broke due to my stupidity(ran over with my truck!),now I can't get a replacement for it 'cause they don't make it anymore.
It was an almost 6:1 ratio!!

I’ve got a Abu Garcia saltwater Baitcaster and its defiantly an excellent reel.
The award for the “Rolex of reels” has to go to the Shimano Stella spinning reel. Velvety smooth with one hell of a price tag! |

I still have a 5001C and a 5500, both are close to 25 years old now and still work like new. The Swedes make good reels.

I fish the surf regularly and mainly use the Diawa Saltiga. It's pretty much bullet proof and totally sealed, super smooth drag. Matched up with a G-loomis rod and it's close to my Rollie.

Im a huge fisherman but I wouldn't go as far to call an Abu the the Rolex of reels. Actually I wouldn't call any freshwater reel on par with a fine watch (even Van Staals.) Maybe some of the 130 class saltwater reels like an Accurate or Tiagra bit they probably have 10-20x the parts and are really built to take a beating.
