Thanks.

What about the case?
Clasp not a concern. Desk diving. Can see polishing it. Many do that.

Looks good man. This unpolished thing is a bit silly because lightly polished lightly worn is better than worn to hell but strictly UNPOLISHED yahoo.

Not sure if polished deliberately or just by daily use/cuff wear, but case looks soft to me.

If you have to ask and can’t tell, then why does it matter?

LOL. Post of the day.

It wouldn't matter to me, because if I bought that watch the first thing I would do would be to get it serviced with a nice polish.

To me would like to see the lug holes .. But since I can't I would have to say yes but a very light polish would not be a deal breaker for me.

Got any photos under better lighting? These aren't the best to make a solid call.

Lug holes look sharp and not cratered in, so the sides might be original. Lug tops are hard to call due to lighting. The coronet on the clasp could be smudged or be catching strange lighting.

Part of me thinks it only looks bad due to the photos but I'll reserve final judgment after seeing photos not shot with a potato.

Not a Polish expert but grew up in Chicago so I know several poles. Hard to say if Polish, German, even could be Czech.

Was just gonna say, bezel's a bit of a mess.

Polish is one thing, bad polish is another. But I speak French & Spanish well.

Don’t disagree, but keep in mind, 25 years of daily use, for anything and everything. The man has never cared what it bangs into. That wear is from use, not polish.
Folks forget, gold wears. Just look at a ring worn regularly.
Is there anyone that believes a watch worn in that manner should look like a safe queen?

Was just comparing your pics to my 1996 DJ that I bought new and has never been polished, and I agree with others that the case looks a little soft around the lugs compared to mine. I would guess it has been polished. Beautiful though.

Question, when did they change from lug holes to no lug holes? My 96 has no lug holes.

The fluted bezel also looks soft. But hard to tell if it’s from polishing or just daily wear. If the price is good I’d buy it. Even if it was polished at one point, they didn’t go ham on it so the watch still looks good.

It was an exercise.
Thanks to all that participated.

I think all will agree this watch looks rather good for its age. This is actually my dad’s watch, that he has worn daily since having purchased it back around 95/96. He takes it everywhere, never takes it off other than to sleep and even gardens with it on.

This watch has actually been serviced by RUSA 4 times, each time having been polished as part of their service. What I hope this exercise illustrates, as at least it does to me, is that it looks comparable or yet better than like what a 25 year old, daily beater watch should look. Furthermore, it puts a bit of a dent in the don’t polish myth as it has been polished four times and still looks great. It looks like what it should........a well worn watch that still maintains its looks and has lived a hell of a lifetime, as a great watch should...........Not an investment.

But why was it serviced so many times in 25 yrs? Serviced once every 6 years?

Try explaining that to dad.
Was a firm believer Rolex said every 5 years.
So every 5 years, out it went.
If I recall correctly, one of them was due to the watch stopping.
During the last service, we did the dial swap, which was 4 years ago.

Where exactly did Rolex say that?

Tell "dad", from me that he flushed thousands of $ down the toilet and may have done his watch more harm than good.

The watch just looks tired and sad. A new case and bezel will bring it back to life. Not sure about the jubilee bracelet. Is it really saggy?

He didn’t flush anything. He did what he believed was right, to service it regularly, and get it back shiny and new. It’s a keeper, never to be sold. Exactly what harm did he do to it? Does it look that much worse than someone who chooses to not have a well worn watch polished and instead has it full of missing chunks, dents and scratches?
If at 84 it’s what makes him happy, who am I to judge?

You see tired and sad. I see a well worn, enjoyed watch, with many stories to tell, that will be passed down generations.

Still trying to figure out your need to put “dad” in quotes. Only inference to be taken is some sort of mocking.
