From my limited knowledge:

Looks like a mark IV with original fat font insert. Date under cyclop looks distorted(maybe due to camera angle).

Need more picture

The photo is far too terrible to make a buying decision off.

Sorry about the lack of photos, the owner is elderly and he is doing his best to get photos for me. I hope to have a lot more shortly.

That’s not a fat font, n I’ve never seen a 5513 service insert like that. It looks more like later 5 digits insert?

I blame it on autoconnect.

The insert in the first picture is different from the last three pictures. The first one looks AM. The later pictures show a mk3 insert

Based on the later photos (alone) it seems OK to me. Honest looking bracelet wear and corrosion on the case.

Personally, I'd inspect each component more closely before handing over the cash, but if it's a remote deal I'd use a credit card and have the right of return within a couple days.

Well, many vintage Rolexes could fit that description. There's something cool about buying an honest beat-up survivor watch and bringing it back to life.

Maybe a movement service, new crystal and a new (or restored) bracelet. Heck, even a NATO. I bet this red 1680 cleans up nice!

I agree, yeah I am just going to get him down a bit more and then have it serviced internally. I like the way it looks on the outside. I have a pile of nice nato's too.

12300 AUD is 9000USD right?

I'm pretty sure I've seen those pictures of the red sub before (maybe ebay?). Be wary of a scam.

If the seller is legit it’s a steal, as Brad says proceed with caution, make sure you have some sort of buyer protection. Use the old Rolex Forum mantra “buy the seller”. Finders crossed it works out for you

Yeah the deal has been done

P.S - I love how people bag the watch in the forum and then PM me with 'fair' offers, which are simply my purchase price???

That ratty insert would be the first thing to go for me. It's had its day and time to retire it to the tin bin.

This watch has been up on eBay for a very long time. I remember messaging the seller about it maybe 10-12 months ago.

If you bought it from a guy in NZ, then good work :)

If he'd let me know he wanted 12,300 aud for it i would have bought it ages ago!

I made him a substantially greater offer and easy sale terms in June and he knocked it back. Then we had contact again in September and still no sale. I hope the deal works out for daydatepiepan. Let us know how things go.
