Incoming Independent

Just received my 1 of 50 copper Reiwa from Kurono Tokyo. For those who don't know, Kurono is a sub brand from Hajime Asaoka, a renown Japanese independent watchmaker.

This watch was designed by Hajime and uses a Miyota 90S5 movement. Features a two-part dial process and highly polished hands, outboard track and case; the multiple high polish surfaces allow it to play extremely well with the light. The 37mm size might put a lot of people off, but I'm finding myself liking classic sizing more and more.

Nice, congrats! I've been looking at some of these Japanese independents recently. Something about the Japanese approach to details and perfection, and the limited production.

I've been intrigued by this brand: https://naoyahidawatch.com/product/

Beautiful looking, simple, and classic, although a little pricey for what they are, IMHO. The size is also 37mm, which also doesn't bother me.

That watch is stinking awesome. I have always thought you had one of the most sophisticated and well thought out collections on TRF. This watch reinforces that perception.

Nice watch!

Will they have another production run anytime?

The lugs, case shape and the dial colour reminded me of this Montblanc.

I definitely agree with regards to Japanese craftsmanship. They seem to have the highest of skillsets and attention to detail in mostly anything they pursue. From watches, to electronics to even whiskey.

Never heard to NH, but the company seems intriguing. I definitely want to read up on them, always fun discovering and learning about new brands.

Thank you very much! That really does mean a lot coming from you. I've always held your collection and knowledge in the highest of regards.

Many thanks. It definitely has a similar case styling. I've always loved those Montblanc releases too, they're very underrated. I'm glad that brand is having a resurgence.

I'm unsure of the next run, but given the success of the last two releases I'm sure they will do another. They will likely release info in the fall with preorders around late Nov or early Dec.

Thanks. I'm glad there seems to be more demand over more traditionally sized watches. I hope there are more options like this in the future (not many watches over 40mm fit my wrists well).

In case anyone is interested, they will produce a green dialed version available for pre-order on May 22. Limited to 50 pieces.

The green dial certainly looks nice too.
I think I will be on a lookout for it.

It gets sold out in minutes if not seconds, unless you’re ready to move fast and lucky you’re unlikely to get one
