Icon20 Rolex Datejust Model number question from a noob

Someone is offering me a Datejust with the box, everything, its been sitting in a safety deposit box for a year. On the card they showed me, the model number says 116610, and it has a serial number.

Can the Datejust have a model number of a 116610 ? I have looked on the rolex site, they do not reference this model except on the Submariner.

And, the price is rather cheap so .. could be a replica? The serial number checks out, just confused on the model number.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Cheers!

Well it doesn’t make sense, do you have pics? 116610 is a submariner also it would have LN at the end

Something doesn't sound right. That model number is not for a DJ.

Fake card, holder and box - clearly no hope for the watch - but the offeror is genuine...a genuine idiot to think that’d pass.

Ha 4k , they sent a few more pics and it does get ugly the closer in one zooms lol.

I think the old guy bought the rolex, thinking it was real and he left it for his family. Sad story, they are innocent in all of this, just trying to clear up their fathers estate and this will not help for sure.

Yeah, but try telling someone their father's watch is fake, now I'm the asshole. Oh well, someone will get stuck with it and that sucks.

Run run as fast as you can! As a rule of thumb, if something has to come with a long-story, I assume it's BS.

Well the right thing to do, would be to throw it away. I really hope nobody else gets burned.

Well I told them it's a dud and sadly someone took their father for some money. They don't believe me and are going to put it on the classifieds. Personally I'd keep it as it would be a funny reminder of my father getting burned on his last deal lol, a great keepsake.

Desperate times, they won't hear anything of it being a replica.

Thanks to all for their help though!

Even with that terrible picture the dial and bezel are not boding well for it being genuine either... it would seem the right thing to do would be to take 10 mins and have it looked at by a jeweler nearby before they post it for sale...

Run.
Run Fast.
Run Far.
Do not be a chump.

I see things that do not even involve the watch itself.

Do you know the family well? If not, they might not be as innocent as you think. At worst they know its fake, at best they are being deliberately naive and choosing to ignore the very real possibility its fake.
