Any red flags on this Rolex Submariner Date 16610?

Hi all,

I’m looking at picking up a preowned Rolex Submariner Date 16610 as a full set with ‘V’ serial number and warranty card dated 2010.

It hasn’t had a Rolex service but an independent one.

Dealer wants £8k and has sent the below pics.

Appreciate any advice.

If there are 'red flags', I don't see them. The price seems steep to me but maybe that's the current market value in your area.

Good luck with your decision.

The crystal seems suspect but I can clearly see the LEC. Not sure thats good or bad. But otherwise it looks very clean.

I nearly got scammed last year on a sub. It had a ton of gen parts mixed in. Ask for pics of the inside of the bracelet + stamps.

What is it about the crystal that makes it seem suspect?

My opinion is that this is one of the latest (and near perfect) 16610 fakes. You should not be able to see the LEC in that first picture, I think the CG at 2 is thicker than the CG at 4 and they are both too short. I think the SEL at 1 doesn’t fit right and the date font may be too bold.

Difficult to judge as these are super reps. Buy the seller my friend.

I appreciate the comment but the LEC can clearly be seen on other models for sale online so I wouldn't say this was an issue.

Also, the CG and font thickness for the date window seems consistent with other watches listed elsewhere.

The fact this comes from a brick and mortar jewellers should provide confidence tat any issues with authenticity can be challenged if it transpires that this is, indeed, a fake which I highly doubt.

I note that you appreciate the comment but:

If you are so sure it is genuine why ask for opinions.

The pix are not good enough for me.

Take it to a RSC for a service quote as this will give you confirmation of authenticity and condition?

You asked for advice buddy. I have been looking at and wearing these 16610's for 20years. I may be wrong, I hope I'm wrong too..

..but let's not just leave it there, I want to help you... so - go back to this watch/dealer and have a look at the clasp see if it has code E06, and have a look at the underside of the little flip locker, if is it shiny - it's the very super replica I speak of - these will have a clone 3135 movement - many so called watchmakers have been fooled by these (or so it is claimed if you read this whole watchout section).

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

The watch is fine, it’s been on a lapping machine though, most noticeable on the top of the lugs.

Can’t tell if the crystal is original from the pictures supplied.

Is it one to avoid or probably as good as I am going to get for a 10 year old Submariner at this price point?

The price is at the right point, but it depends on your personal preferences in regards to condition. There are hundreds of late 16610’s available at that money, some better, and of course, some worse.

The only thing I dont like are the mis-matched crown guards. One side has definitely been polished more

I think that was just the angle as they look the same in other pictures.

I have gone ahead and paid for it - looking forward to getting it on the wrist!

Thanks all for your help.

I have the same serial reference from 2010 (bought around 4 weeks ago). This looks the same as mine, albeit it’s had a bit of a polish. One very slight difference is that mine has a gap between the 300m - but I believe that is a random dial difference. I’ve seen both styles on V serials.

Looks tidy to me though and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. They’re the last of the best in my eyes.

Looks ok. Price may be different from what I would expect due to your location.
