Is this anyone else's grail?
In my opinion a "grail watch" is one that you will likely never obtain in your lifetime. In my case it is either of these solid gold GMT's.
The concord... or the first gold GMT with no crown guards: Nobody ever seems to talk about these. Does anyone out there in TRF land happen share my opinion? Anyone happen to be lucky enough to own one?

I can't remember exact years. The no crown guard is late 50's I believe and the concord was during the 70's. Both are very rare as far as I can find.
They aren't the only grails on my list but are the top two on the GMT list.

Solid gold and no crown guards?!?!? That has got to be one of the rarest variants out there!
Anyone know of a model they made fewer of? |

When I first started loving watches a gold root beer on a jubilee was my grail. I bought one in 2007, loved it and flipped it to put towards a PP 5970J. I miss my root beer and never wear the PP...grails I guess remain grails forever.

First pic is a 1675/8 with concord hands.
Second pic is the 50's model without crown guards.

Without the crown guards and with the brown bezel/dial it looks very similar to the Tudor BBB. Maybe something to keep you going until you find the grail?

Here is an article on the GMT with the concord hands:
http://www.rolexmagazine.com/2011/02...orde-jets.html Notice the stick hands in the color add. As for the no crown guard model, from what I can tell it was the first solid gold GMT made, hence the old style dauphine hands and small GMt hand.

Here is a collection (borrowed from the web) of 1675's and one 16758. Notice two of them have the "concord" stick hands and one without crown guards. The no crown guard version originally had a brown/burgundy bakelite bezel insert just like the 6542.

I just discovered the reference number for the "no crown guard" with dauphine hands...
It's actually a gold 6542! Learn something every day.
