16710 Pepsi or Blue Snowflake... all thoughts are welcomed

Hello all,

I currently have:

• 1970 5513,
• 2005 Exp2 16570 Black dial.
• 2018 Airking (birthday gift from mrs),

I also have other brands:

• 1996 3520 Mk40 the colourful Omega speedmaster.
• 2016 Grand Seiko GMT Dpring Drive SBGE011.
• 1960s Oris Super (diver)

Initially was looking for 1675/16750 however I realised there is so much to lookout for when buying them and one can easily be tricked, and the good ones are through the roof in prices (for me).

Now I am very interested in the Blue SnowFlake for a while, and saw its price climbing up steadily over the last couple of years, there price is almost are in the same range of the GMT 16710 ($9k-$10). with the snowflake is roughly around $1500 cheaper than the 16710.

So the the question is GMT Master-2 16710 or the Tudor Snowflake Blue?

All thoughts are welcomed,

Hi Mohamed,

I just bought a 16710. I think it a very beautifully and versatile reference. It’s also very comfortable to where.

The price for an unpolished or one with good case material left with a full set will far over 10000$ at the current market rate.

But you can find some watch only in good shape in the price range you mentioned.

A blue Snowflake in top condition is a much rarer watch. Undervalued IMHO.

Yes the comparison based on watch only, although I have found full set in a very reputable dealer shop in north England for just under £8900 which is around $11,300 in current rate, on the other hand the snowflake I am looking at is around $8500.

I am a little worried that prices for 16710 are rocketing now, and there is good supply of them, on the other hand the blue snowflake is getting harder and harder to grab nowadays, and very handful are available in the marker (unless I am not looking at the right place!)

Tough choice, based on the 2 you have found locally I think I would choose the Snowflake due to price & rarity assuming it’s in excellent condition judging by its age.

Seriously though, it sounds like you want the GMT so I’d focus on sourcing the best example in your price range, from a seller you trust.

I own a 16710 (obviously very close to a 16700), and just recently bought a snowflake. What you have is one very tough decision!

The 16710 was my first Rolex and it's the one I've wanted since I was a kid, so you can probably tell where this is going...

The snowflake is amazing though. If you were to say 5513 or 1680 vs. the snowflake (in my collection), I would choose the snowflake. They are a bit more rare and most people don't know what they are, which is the perfect 1-2 punch for me. BUT the Rolex GMT is so iconic and it ticks off so many boxes that between the two, I would have to pick the GMT.

Of course, as I look at my photos and see the Snowflake on the strap, it makes me swoon and realize why I spent way more than I wanted on it...haha. Such is life as a WIS.

I'd go 16710 (or 16700). It'll give you the most versatility in terms of appearance and function. You can switch up inserts to give you different looks, which is also fun.

You would also avoid the tricky waters of buying a vintage Tudor. Buying the Rolex, as a newer reference, would not have quite as many minefields to navigate compared to the world of vintage watches.

Good luck either way.

I would go 16710 largely bc getting a honest snowflake is expensive and difficult vs sourcing a solid 16710.
Sourcing aside, I would still go for the 16710 on aesthetics and functionality.

If you can get a good snowflake I'd go that route, but for the same (converse) reason!

I love the way those big plots and hands patina v. the blue dial... Looks great. You wont get that with a luminova piece so if you go with the GMT I would find a tritium piece, imho.

Aaron provides some good advice here and I would echo his comments. I would recommend the GMT II 16710 or GMT 16700 over the Tudor.

I've got both. I wear the 16710 more cause I dont have to worry about knocking the lume out of the hands or seeing it in the dark. The functionality is a bonus too. More recognizable and iconic. If the snowflake were in good original shape, it should command a hell of a lot more than the gmt.
All that being said, get the snowflake first cause prices are sure to keep surging and will only be harder to find. There are millions of gmt's available

The three of us have it right...the only way to go is get both!

To be honest with you, if you could move a few from your collection (like the explorer), I think it would be worthwhile to get both. They're just truly amazing pieces.

Yes I agree you are all right looking at it from different angles,
I already thought maybe I can move most of my watches and
trim down my collection to 4-5 watches I.e. 5513, 16570, future snowflake and the GMT, I think 2 divers and 2 dual times should do me good for the coming years...

Once you have a gmt, you wont wear the explorer. Happened to me. The 16570s are long gone

I got mine from a dealer (Menta Watches) with box and papers for $10.5k; that was a few weeks back.

I've owned both, still own the 16710.

The GMT II offers more color and bracelet options, useful features, and wears a bit more modern.

The blue snowflake is special and a fun weekend watch. Love the top hat crystal and rarer vintage aspects.

Both of these watches are why I love the Tudor GMT so much. It's the best of both.

But if you can only choose one, it's the GMT II.

TBH when looking at both watches in pics above, the Snoflake in deed made me smile... so I think I have a plan, I will get the snowflake first, and move some of my other watches to fund the GMT... 🙂
