AP boutique payment options

Hi all,

Got the call on an AP Code I’ve been waiting on for a few months (same day I got the call on my Rolex Skydweller from local AD!!)

Question is I’m out of state for this boutique. Purchase history before was with an AD back in when AP had AD’s. SA told me because it’s my first purchase from boutique I need to pay via wire and won’t be able to use a credit card unless I’m there in person which isn’t possible.

Is this routine for first time boutique purchases? I’m just inherently nervous when wire transfers are involved.

I had to pay via wire as well since I was out of state and my first purchase. Which Code did you get?

I believe I’ve heard something similar… perhaps in regards to shipping, that they won’t ship unless you have an in person transaction first. I don’t know if there’s anything behind it besides maybe someone’s bright idea to cut down on non local flippers, but I do think it’s probably an actual policy at the moment. Annoying for you, because yeah, wires suck…

Too bad that travel is not possible - even if out-of-state, I'd definitely make a weekend out of it, have a nice chat with the SA, have a nice dinner, and fly the watch home.

Agreed and the AMEX points should cover the majority of travel expenses to justify.

Thanks everyone for the clarification!! Definitely eases my mind lol. I usually deal with my local AD but with the boutique transition it’s no longer possible … I wish I could make a trip out of it but just too last minute.

I’m getting a 15210CR/01 in white gold/rose gold with a black dial.

I believe in "buy the seller" so when it comes to an AP boutique, there should be no problem at all. They don't want to eat the CC fees.

Wire to a well established worldwide company shouldn't cause you any concern

My bad luck that I was very particular about the color combination I wanted ... was offered two other color combos that came in but mine just took more time I guess :(

Why would tax differ depending on manner of payment?

That’s interesting, I thought tax rate is based on where you live/receive delivery of watch.

You pay taxes no matter what, don't you?

In Europe is way more normal to pay by bank transfer, the system in other parts of the world seems to be a bit different.

A few years ago when I bought from AP NYC they charged me NYC tax even though I live in MA. They said it was their policy.

Did you have your watch shipped to MA or did you walk out with it in NYC? If you walked out with it in NYC, you will charge NYC tax no matter where you live.

I wonder if they ship out of state where there are no boutiques, would you save on sales tax from that boutique state to non-boutique state? E.g, California boutique to Washington state.

That used to be the case until 2018 when the loophole got removed. The legislation was primarily geared towards Amazon who was using it on a massive scale but us watch guys also got tagged.

Now your tax is calculated based on where you live if you have it shipped.
